Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do any of you use an internet filter program? We have been using Be Safe online for a year and at the same time we installed a free virus protection (AVG) When we did this, our computer slowed down tremendously. We had it reformated, and checked for problems and everything is fine. THe computer man said he thought it was our internet filter that was slowing it down. Does this happen to you if you use a filter? WE also heard that AVG slows the computer too. So we uninstalled that and are trying out a free trial through Be Safe and it was running well the first few days and now it is slow again. It is frustrating because we pay for a satelite to get our internet (dsl is not available out in the sticks here) and it is $25 a month. We are guarenteed a speed of 66 but it is probably only running around 40. That is an improvement from 22 we were getting with our dial up, but I still don't want to pay $25 a month to have it run only at 40. So, I am trying to figure out if its my filter, virus protection or something else. Any clues?

how old is you computer? they will start to slow after a bit.

also, try turning everything off... and restarting.

also... unplugging you modem... for 15 seconds. then plugging it back in.

our computer is older... 7 yrs... and I need to do this sometimes...

we use NORTON anti virus software. and things will sun slow if there are issues affecting the computer. but as soon as dh clears everything, it runs better.

good luck...

We do too, as recommended by they guy who helps us locally with our computer upkeep. I've needed to contact Norton once and found their free online support to be great.

Love,

Our computer is 4 years old, but has been running slow for a year. CAGirl, when you say turn everything off and restart, do you mean just shut down the computer and restart? We have tried that and it hasn't helped. I will try the modem idea.

I think it is a filtering problem, not an anti-virus. We use SafeEyes filtering program. It slows down my husband's brand new computer, and it really slows down mine which is a few years older. It's because anything you do has to bounce off of their server first, and if their server is really busy...well.

We find it is worse if the computer has been idle for awhile; it's almost like you lose your place in line on the server. It can be very frustrating sometimes, especially when it keeps timing out. Sometimes I cheat and disable the filter when I am working on the computer (since it was not set up for me) and then re-enable it when I get off.

We have a cable modem through Comcast. Sometimes it will slow down or get sketchy and we have to unplug it and plug it back in. That's the first thing the techs tell you to do on the phone if you call in for support. And sometimes my husband has had to restart his computer to get the SafeEyes to allow him on the internet at all (it could be a Vista issue).
