Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Has anyone read this book and the others by Stephanie Meyers? What did you think?

Funny that you should ask this today. I had a conversation with a 15 year old girl in our drama camp carpool about these books this afternoon. She is a wonderful Catholic girl who seems very well formed in her faith. She highly recommended the books. She admitted that when she first heard of the premise of the books - vampires, etc. - she assumed that she would not be interested. But now she loves them. When I asked if she had found anything in them that goes against our faith or morals, she said no.

Now that my girls are curious about the books, I'll likely pre-read them myself. They set off a few warning bells for me, but I had lots of misgivings about Harry Potter at first and those books have enriched our lives.

Anyone here actually read them yet?

Catholic author Nancy Carpenter Brown is reviewing it:
Part I
Part II

From her review, I don't think Nancy cared for them.

The first I heard of them was this summer at the library. I bumped into a Catholic friend who has three teenaged daughters and use to hs. She said her girls loved the books.

I don't think we'll be reading them though.

Thank you so much for this information, I will pass it on to my dd18. I know these aren't books I would be interested in, and with this infor, maybe dd18 won't want to read them either.
