Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My grandmother and my husband's grandmother both ended up in the hospital this weekend...

My grandmother had emergency surgery for some intenstinal problems. She is still in the ICU and will be staying at the hospital through the week at least. The incision site, I'm told, is very large, so it may take her a long time to recover. She is still fairly young (in her early 70's) but has never been in very good health. I'm also concerned for my grandfather, who is taking all of this very hard.

And my husband's grandmother had a fall on Friday that led to five broken ribs. They have the pain under control now, thankfully, but it is going to take quite a while for her to recover as well, so when she is discharged this afternoon, my mother-in-law will be taking her over to a rehabilitation/nursing home. They are hoping this will be a temporary situation and that in a few weeks, she will be able to return home. (She has lived with my mother- and father-in-law ever since she first moved here from the Philippines.) I am thankful that the nursing home they've chosen is just a few miles from our house, but she doesn't speak English, and I am so worried that she is going to be lonely...

Please keep these two dear women in your prayers. Thank you so much.
