Anyone have success with this? There is some kind of mold in the air conditioning system. I have on and off allergy symptoms that I think are probably triggered by it. For some reason our bedroom seems like the worst room except possibly the bathroom right next to it so I am not sure if there is any other hidden source of mold -- our bedroom is pretty clear so if it were an actual patch of black stuff or something we would know. I do not think we have the money for professional treatment of this as soon as it would be ideal to have it improved. My husband has some plan he's researched that involves bleach.

I just wanted to know if anyone had treated a problem like this successfully, and any tips you could share if so.

We have mostly succeed with mold abatement on our own. Our basement flooded last year with septic tainted water.   


I first used a very weak bleach solution. Sprayed it on all affected areas, and let sit. Then I wiped them down with adamp towel. I then sprayed them with a solution of water, vinegar and tea tree oil and let that sit again overnight. Wiped down again, with a towel wetted with a tea tree oil solution. Then lots of fans on to keep the air moving while everything dried.

For our air conditioner, we are lucky to have metal mesh filters. I cleaned them very well with soapy water with a little vinegar. Then I sprayed them down with a tea tree oil solution and put them back. Turned on, it distributed the TTO throughout the ducts. I also scrubbed all the vent covers with a vinegar + TTO solution.

Some areas were really bad and required this process a few times, but within 2 months the mold was no longer visable, and my symptoms were gone.
