My dear fil is on his deathbed, 2000 miles away. My dh took a red-eye flight last night to be by his side. Fil is in the hospital, in a coma, and the doctors say it is time to decide about stopping dialysis, and extubating him. He had a major brain bleed yesterday, and he has not responded at all to the surgery to relieve pressure. He has lived many years in very poor health, and we know that he is ready to give up this mortal life. My mil passed away two years ago, and he has not been the same since.
When my mil died, the children and I were unable to make the trip for her funeral, as I had just had a baby. So dh was without us for his mother's death and funeral. Now, I have been searching for flights in the next three or four days, and there is just nothing available! Well, except for a few $2,000 first-class seats, and those aren't even together. I need to at least be able to sit with my two year-old and four year-old! My seven and nine year-olds would be fine sitting together slightly away from me, but not the little guys. I have tried flights out of two different airports, and will check another, but I will just be so heartbroken if we are unable to find a flight and be with dh yet again as he loses another parent.  Please pray that something will open us for us, so that we can be there with my dh to say goodbye to my fil.

Lisa, I'm praying for you, your DH & his father. This is such a difficult time!
When I was trying to get us all back to NC for MIL's passing in April, I found the best deal through priceline.com. I tried every travel site, including calling the airlines direct, and Priceline's fare was at least $200 below anyone else. The direct airline's flights were all the highest fares (by $400 - 600) when I had to get a next day flight for DH.
I hope you're able to find a way to travel and be with your DH!

Praying for you, Lisa. When my granny died we were able to call the airlines directly and they worked with us a lot to accomodate our needs because there was a death in the family and we needed to get down to Louisiana very quickly. You might try calling the airlines - perhaps there might be someone there that can be of help. It's an idea anyway...in the meantime...I'm praying so hard that you find those seats out!

Oh, Lisa, I'm praying for you and your family. What a difficult situation to be in. We, too, live far from family and this is always my biggest concern. Which is exactly why we're moving closer to family when dh retires in 12 months.

Lisa, I am praying for your dh and your family. It is so hard when we live so far apart. Here is an option you might look into, Palmdale has a very small airport, only one airline, it flies to San Francisco, maybe you could get a flight out that way.

Praying for you all, Lisa. My children and I were not able to be with my dh at his father's funeral last year. It was hard and not ideal, yet my dh felt peaceful, as if all was as it needed to be. Peace be with you.
