Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone have any suggestion for living books to help learn to identify numbers? My son can count but gets mixed up when trying to identify a number in the written form. (His favorite types of books are normally nonfiction and anything science related)

I was also thinking of getting a bingo game for this, and if anyone has any other ideas for math games to help learn number I appreciate any suggestions!

My suggestion would to get a deck of cards and play war. It's a mind-numbing game for adults, but littles just love it and it really reinforces numbers. If you need to, you can shorten the deck to include only 1-5 for awhile, then gradually add in more cards as ds gets quicker at identifying the numbers. This is how I taught my oldest son his numbers.

I second card games for counting and number recognition...war or battle, go fish, crazy eights, a game we call 7up...endlessly entertaining to the kids and great for numeration. This worked very well with my 7yo who is dyslexic and struggled mightily with number recognition and sequencing.

Living Math Books - Early Concepts is a website that I use when looking for books for my preschooler maybe it would help. In addition to card games, we like Chutes and Ladders for number recognition.

thanks for the great suggestions. We tried "war" and it was a great hit! I am going to check out the website and try some other games. Although it has been a loooong time since I played those other card games so I have to figure out how to play!

This definitely seems to be the way to go.

Theresa,
I know this is off topic, but I just saw you were in Alaska- we spent four wonderful years there. Two in Fairbanks and two in Anchorage. Think we would have stayed forever if we hadn't had my son and realised we were just too far away from family in Ohio and Virginia.

I miss it though!!!!!
