UPDATE BELOW Tim injured his back pretty severely about 10 years ago, when he was only 27  . He is and has always been in shape and active and athletic,not to mention that he is all around fix it here (plumbing, roofing, electric, major landscaping,etc)and coach to our boys, so it was a long depressing road of rehab with Chiro, Physical therapy, spinal epidurals, and on and on. (and it never totally went back to "normal")
well, all of the sudden a few months ago his back is totally out again, but even worse than before and he says his actual tail bone hurts. This is bringing him to tears. He has been trying to work on it on his own with exercises, etc (and is doing all his work in his office that he can with the door closed lying on his stomach on the floor.).
I feel so helpless and worried and sorry for him. He can't sleep the pain is often so great. It is affecting his life greatly! He visited the Dr., and there is a long wait list for physical therapy.
Please pray for him, and for me, that I can be of help to him.
and I'd love any book ideas or any anecdotal suggestions anyone might have. He is "only" 37 and is depressed that he is crippled for life now....
UPDATED 7/22 Dh basically became paralyzed down the left leg and foot. he was in agonizing pain and could not sleep, stand, sit, lie down. They got him in as an emergency yesterday (mon) and were shocked that he could even walk himself in the door- his reflexes were nothing. He has to go into physical therapy 2-3x per week for 6 weeks, to measure any progress, before insurance will consider the next step options. (some sort of surgery, or in the least the spinal epidurals)
he has severe herniated disk and something else I cannot remember proper term.
Please keep the prayers coming- he is looking into the book and exercise suggestions. The PT is good about CORE strengthening, and seems familiar with TAPPS.
Update 7/27 Dh has extensive nerve damage. Another MRI is ordered for when he gets back. He is still not able to have feeling in his foot and calf. The mornings are the worst, if he can fall asleep at night waking up is torture and painful.
We have to go to a work related conference for dh, and had added two college visits for oldest ds (Steubenville and Belmont Abbey).
I will be doing all of the driving, Dr says dh should be out of car once an hour  . Once we get there he should be fine, but the car trip is going to be very difficult. Please pray. We are very reluctant for him to miss as we missed the last conference due to me being in hosp. and on bedrest.

I will pray. I have a friend whose husband went through something similar and I know he found a book that was helpful. I 'll get back to you with the title.

Praying for Tim! My dh had his back permanently injured when he was in the Army - that was about 18 years ago! This is a very difficult Cross for our strong husbands to carry. I'm praying extra hard!

Oh how I identify, Lisa! My dh is still recovering from knee surgery...and adjusting his work and self-concept. This is a big cross to carry for athletes, hard workers, and physical guys of all stripes.

Lisa,
The lady that developed T-Tapp shattered her back while falling off a balance beam in gym class. She created this to help herself. I have used the 15 min work out (as well as dh) and it really does strength and help with no jumping or other strain to the body.
I hope this helps...

Oh dear. I am praying. My dh had a severely herniated disk in his upper spine. It was so incredibly painful. He ended up having surgery after PT and epidurals. It really made a huge difference for him. Many, many prayers for your dh.
