Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our 3 year old oven started making a funny smell whenever the burners were on around the same time we were having new flooring installed. Instead of just writing it off to the smell of the glue the installers were using, we decided just to call the gas company out to check it out for us. The guy walked in and said it probably was the combination of the open flame and the fumes form the glue and that it wasn't dangerous, but then he took out his little meter reader thingy and told us that the oven was leaking carbon monoxide!!! I freaked out! He said that it was a high enough level that they would have to shut it off until we got someone in to fix it which is going to be at least $100. At this point, I am thinking why spend the money to fix a stove that scares me and I won't trust again. I should just replace it with an electric range. We have other gas appliances like our hot water heater and our furnace, but those all vent to the outside. The stove doesn't. Am I being paranoid?

Yes. A little paranoid maybe. An electric range could have a short that could burn your house down. Nothing is ever a 100% guarantee... well, except for death, taxes and God's love.

I would love a gas stove, I really miss having one for the way they cook. If you are the sort that this would really bother you long term then switch to electric, but if you think it is just a passing stressor stick with whichever you prefer to cook with.

And be sure and have a CO detector as well.. that should take care of most of the worry because you'll KNOW if there's a problem.

We have a gas dryer and that sometimes freaks me out. When we had our wood floors put in, there was a funny smell coming from the dryer as well. I have one carbon monoxide monitor upstairs and one downstairs. Putting one in the kitchen may alleviate your worries.
