Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have no idea where to post this...so I decided to go to the "crafty & creative" forum.

I need to come up with a name for my home school to send into the county. I can't believe how stuck I am!    Any good ideas out there for someone who puts too much thought into things like this!

Please move this if you think it belongs elsewhere!

Well, first we were "Morning Star Academy."

Then we were "Divine Mercy Academy" (I am pretty sure that is how DD transcripts for college read. A close runner up at this time was "Our Lady of Perpetual Help Homeschool" - because, we need her help, perpetually.

Then we were "Serendipity Homeschool". But when Elizabeth, etc. started the Serendipity site, then that felt weird, so although I loved that, I am not as comfortable with it anymore.

Now I just call us "The Whimsical Academy of Precocious Children", although I haven't sent *that* into the state yet. 'Official Paperwork' will probably be "more serious" - like Divine Mercy or OLPH.

We have home schooled for 4 years, and haven't named it yet. We've thought about it, but haven't come up with one we all agree on.
But I have wondered: Is there a reason why we should have a name?? So far, I haven't really come across a situation where a name was called for, but maybe that is coming in later years with applications or something? Up until now, we just thought it would be cool to have a name.

Here is a link for titles of Our Lady. This is a great place to start.

We did a search for patron Saints pertaining to Teachers/Schools/Learning, etc. and came up with St. Jerome's Academy!

I hope that gives you some names to ponder

Betsy

P.S. I definitely think about these things ways too much!!!

Ours is Frassati Academy but it is just for us, not official purposes.

We're Holy Family School, as it's our goal to be a "holy family" with the Holy Family as our model...

Officially we are St. John the Evangelist and Padre Pio Academy...each child picked a saint...but in my heart we've been Padre Pio Academy all along, and that's what I put down on the rare occasions I need an official name.

We're Sedes Sapientia Academy but the only place I've had to list that was my Barnes and Noble discount application.

I have to give credit to Our Lady of Guadalupe Academy for all the learning that takes place in our home. And we kept the name even though we now live in Wales.

We don't need to officially name our homeschool, but ours is Our Lady Queen of Peace. Our homeschool group is Our Lady Seat of Wisdom.

Wow! I knew I could count on all of you!

Stef....Holy Family Academy was my first thought when I found out I needed to come up with a name!    I looked over at a picture of the Holy Family on my wall and started to think of how they lived, learned, and worked together. Oh, how I look upon that picture for strength every day! It's my top contender.

KC.....I love Our Lady Queen of Peace! We often need a lot of peace around here!

Thank you!!!

Ours is Dom Bosco Universal Academy.

We (well, I) picked St. John Bosco because he is a patron saint of boys and all our students are boys. He started his ministry (as a boy) by entertaining others in return for their attention while he related the readings from Mass.

I put Universal because we would be learning anywhere.

Our motto is "Learning for the fun of it." We don't always live up to my lofty goals, but I try.

Is there something special about the time of year or day/month you first began homeschooling? Just a thought for some ideas...for example, we began homeschooling when I pulled my oldest out of school over Christmas break (5 1/2 years ago!!)...I named our homeschool "Emmanuel Homeschool".

Oh, I had to peek into this topic. I love naming things - kids, pets, houses, cars, home-schools. We've been St. Margaret Academy (which I still love), but we had too many favourite saints to single out just one. I had considered "All Saints" which covers everyone - present and future. We've been using Renaissance Academy for a while now, and that's been working for us...

Blessings,

We are St. Anthony's Academy. He is a tried and true friend around here, so I changed our name from the orginal St. Joseph's Home School. (Whom I also have a special devotion to as I was born on his feast day.)

I became a Catholic at St. Anthony's, we were married at St. Anthony's, all of my children, except for one, have received their sacraments there. We have a history. Without fail, he helps me EVERY SINGLE TIME I CALL HIM to help me with lost items, lost mind, etc. So, I changed our name to honor his faithful concern for our family.
