Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am still having a hard time with sleep. I tried calling my holistic practitioner on the 3rd and got a relay message through the receptionist that I should take 5HTP for sleep at 500 mg. I couldn't ask any questions so I didn't do it. I know nothing about this stuff and I don't want to make things harder on myself if it has any problems associated with it. I am trying to sleep but it is not deep at all...the dreams are weird and I don't stay in them long. I sometimes have trouble in that I wake catching my breath. I will sometimes do this during the day...my friend calls it "sighing" Can I do something to strengthen myself...maybe I am low on something or other? I am at the top of my 7th month... can anyone give me any direction?? I got my sleep between 6am and 12pm today. I really want to stop this cycle if I can. I miss being a more fully functional mom. I pray hard and take a good walk during the day...wish I could do more! Help!?

THIS has been the longest pregnancy I ever had!
Praying for all of you dear friends!

I don't think you should take that much if you are pregnant. I take it and it does help with sleep, but I am not pregnant and I was told not to exceed 300mg a day. I usually take 100mg at bedtime.
As far as catching your breath as you awaken, I have heard of that happening with sleep apnea. It is not just older overweight men who have it. It can leave you feeling drained during the day. Maybe something to look into...
My best to you and hope you find some relief soon!

Donna Marie,

I have a goiter/thyroid problem. When I am not pregnant, I just have a goiter which is just a nodule on my thyroid. My numbers are "weird", but they do not have me on medication. When I AM pregnant however, I tend to go hyperthyroid. This causes me to have nightime anxiety and racing thoughts. I feel really hyper and can't get to sleep. Also, I tend to feel breathless a lot and have to rest after going up the stairs I get so winded. So, maybe you have thyroid problems?? I tend to sigh a lot too! Sometimes it helped to stretch myself out against the arm of my couch so that my back is arched (head is back and I am looking at the ceiling) to feel as if I can get a deep breath. Also, your diaphragm is going to be all squished up so you will actually NOT be getting deep breaths!!

Anyway, my night-time nervousness usually corrects itself about 6 weeks after the baby is born. It may just be hormones gone haywire too. My nurse told me it is fine/safe to take a Benydryl to help me get to sleep at night when I am pregnant. It really worked wonders for me!!! Check with your doctor first of course, but it might work for you.

Good luck! I know how tiring this problem can be. You never feel down or relaxed. Always UP and WIRED!!!
