Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you know of a friendly, not scary or mean, place (forum, yahoo group, etc) where you can go to hash out/discuss/debate different issues from a Catholic Worldview?
For instance, I was reading an article (in a blog or newspaper, I can't remember which now,) and the comment was made, "America can not be both a free country and a Christian country." Now, I would love to discuss this, as since I read it I have thought about it a lot, but I don't think that 4Real might be the best place, as...well....emotions, opinions can run high in any kind of theological and/or political discussion, and I don't want there to be tension on the board!

Catholic Answer Forums has not been a generally "nice" place, in my experience.

Sonlight Lifelong Learners forum would be perfect for this type of discussion - but the majority there are not Catholic, they are coming from an Evangelical Christian approach. I want to be sure the ideas being expressed stem from a Catholic Worldview.

Catholic Spitfire Grill is more for people asking Catholic-specific questions, so geared towards possible converts.

My blog doesn't get enough visitors to have discussions like that there.

My biggest problem is, the people I most want to discuss things like this, the ladies whose opinions I value most highly and trust.....happen to be here!

Does anyone know of a place that discusses theological questions, political issues, etc - in a nice, respectful manner? And is Catholic?

thanks in advance

I don't know, but if you find it - please let me know about it!

I like CAF sometimes. They can be a rather rough crowd at times.

WTM has some interesting discussions, but it's often hit or miss whether it'll even be from a christian perspective, much less catholic.

fisheaters wasn't friendly at all imho. I like CAF better than that one.

well I didn't help at all, but at least you have someone else interested?

I vaguely remember the name 'fisheaters' but have never gone to their forum or known about it. Thank you for mentioning that it is NOT the place I am looking for .

And Martha - you can be sure I will let you know!

I am not very fond of the WTM forums overall...and I can not stand the "rep" system there.

If you find something, let me know too. I would love a Catholic "lifelong learners" type of place!

Maybe people from here could start some kind of Yahoogroup for that sort of discussion? I wouldn't think starting a new group like that would cause a sense that people weren't satisfied with this board since it would just be for people who wanted to discuss topics that could be a burden to the moderators here, not a replacement. I know, maybe I shouldn't even say that unless I'm willing to do it myself/moderate. I just have this tendency to think, "How much moderation could it need? The people here are so charitable!"

Laura,

In the past I was active on a Catholic discussion board: Catholic Online Forum. It is a fairly heavily moderated board operated by an American priest in Italy and while non-Catholics are welcome, it is clearly a Catholic board. You may want to stay out of the "Lion's Den" section at first if you don't want to get too heavy too quickly. Here's the link: http://forum.catholic.org/

Steve Ray's forums, www.catholic-convert.com is a good place. There are a variety of forums, where one can discuss, where one can learn more about the faith, forums just for women (married, and married/single ladies), etc. Its a nice place. You'll get alot of different opinions, and while some people will consistently be jerks (and you'll be able to tell who they are pretty quickly, the vast majority of people are just like you--continuing to learn their faith. There are at least three priests, and a couple of seminarians on there. Not sure about deacons, but its a pretty orthodox group...

Anyway, thought I'd suggest it, since no one else has.

In case you hadn't guessed, I'm on there alot--my login is the same in both, if you're looking for a "familiar face"...

LOL

Rachel
