Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How do you handle when your older child(ren) disppoints you or fails at something, when you know they did not give it their best. I tend to take it very personally and feel like a failure myself. Since I am their "teacher" as well as their mom, I take it pretty hard. I know this is all about my pride. Any suggestions?

Hmm, no advice from me but I have wondered how healthy it will be for me (perfectionist, easily frustrated and stressed out) to be mama and teacher to our son (easily stressed, oppositional, problems with listening and following instructions etc). I think God will sanctify us all mightily!

I take it pretty hard because I tend to presume it's a manifestation of failure and disappointment in my parenting of them.

NOT saying that it's true because they have their own free will and all that.

Just saying that's how it makes me feel.

I just figure it's part of my humility education.

I'm with you, Martha. it's that darned free will at work. Maria, I don't know how far *you* are on your journey to sanctification, but - oh my! - I have a looooong way to go. Imagine how much longer our children have than we do. We are all imperfect beings, sometimes tempted by the devil to do things we shouldn't or even just to slack off on a job we know we could do better. We can gently guide our children back on course, we can facilitate their path to God, but we can't force them. Therefore, you can't be so hard on yourself. Eventually, they have to decide for themselves what path to pursue.

I take it hard, too. I am still working on it and getting lots of practice.
