Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have any suggestions for books that analyze poetry? We are currently memorizing O Captain, My Captain by Walt Whitman & my 11 yo ds and I would love to know the meaning. I've learned that the poem is about the death of Abraham Lincoln, but I'm looking for more of a line by line analysis.

Thank you!

Don't have info on a source for line-by-line analysis, but this Library of Congress link has interesting supplemental materials and resources on the poem, Lincoln's death, and on Whitman.

Hi Mary,

Thanks so much for the Library of Congress info!

One would think that a book of this sort, i.e. poetry analysis, would be quite useful. In "The Harp & Laurel Wreath", there are several poems are analyzed in detail, however "O Captain, My Captain" is not one of them.
