Is it possible to include a workbook approach alongside Right Start Level A? I just spent $110 and feel like I wasted my money because I'm not at ease being unsure if we are ready to move on to the next level. The games with no workbook does not sit well with my personality. I don't know if it's because I need something concrete that shows progress or what it is. Does anybody have any recommendations? Maybe I should try to sell it and get Math U See instead, although I have to admit I had no idea what he was talking about on the demo dvd.

I have a math phobia that started in the second grade when I was learning multiplication. I was not taught the concept with manipulatives and it was not until the 5th grade when I learned using manipulatives that I finally understood. I passed 2nd grade math by having my best friend do my homework while I memorized the answers looking over her shoulder.

Actually, there are workbook pages in the TM IIRC. I know there are tests in level B (not often), but I don't remember about level A.
Imo, the best test for seeing if a child has learned something is just to ask him to do a problem on the spur of the moment in a low-key fashion. If he can do it, he can do it. (Remember how kids used to loathe pop quizzes? However, if a kid knows his stuff without cramming for a test, he has got it cold.)

I'm holding Maryan's copy of Right Start A TM and it has an appendix of some worksheets. I also see on this page that there are worksheets AND the appendix worksheets. Not sure if they are one and the same, but they are measuring and practicing tools to see if the child has grasped the content.

Maybe I have not gotten far enough in the lessons to use the worksheets. I figured everything in the appendix was for the games. I'll look into it because I really would like to make it work.

I think purchasing the $5 worksheets and the game log that Jenn linked is a great idea. Games are not always scheduled iykwim... you should play games that you've learned several times. So to log them down also helps!!

If you feel you need worksheets, you could just print them off on a site that offers drill sheets.
If you need to know if they know the answers, playing the games is the best way of finding out, imo. Also, the higher you go, the more worksheets there are. By the time you get to Level C, there is a worksheet for just about every level.
One more thing, I have never used MUS but someone told me that they do not use worksheets for every lesson either. So this might not solve your problem.

Thanks for the link for the RightStart worksheets. I plan on buying them ASAP. And it's good to know that MUS doesn't have worksheets with every lesson either. I think I just need to get passed some of the early lessons.
