Hi all,
Ds3 fell last Friday night and had to have 7 stitches right in the dead center of his forehead. When he was at the dr. today having them removed I asked the dr about minimizing the scar. He said that he did not feel Maderma for Kids really worked and that it certainly wasn't worth the $20 price tag on the small tube! He didn't really offer me other suggestions except to say that I should keep sun screen on it because the sun can darken the scar.
So, I am wondering if any of you ladies have any suggestions for minimizing the scarring.
Thanks in Advance.
Ryane

rubbing with vit. e oil is supposed to help. Also realize that as he grows it'll move and stretch.

Ditto the vit E. My dd 12 has a scar from around age three, seven stitches above her eye. It is really barely noticeable. We did the vit E early on. Also, the sunscreen is important.
Besides, he's a guy. A scar will make him look tough!

Like yours, my dermatologist told me just recently that Mederma wasn't worth it, that it was all marketing. He told me to buy some of the Palmers Cocoa Butter and massage the scar with it once it was completely healed. Massaging the scar is supposed to help distribute the scar tissue so it has a smoother appearance. Good news to me, because Mederma is pricey!

Convering the wound with an anti-bacterial ointment like Neo-sporin is also supposed to minimize scarring.
Make sure he wearing sun-screen in the sun as well. Scar tissue is "brand-new" skin, so is really easily burned.
Good luck.

I have keloid skin that scars easily and I was told to use vitamin E oil. Ditto what's been said about keeping it out of the sun.

My doc also suggested using Aquaphor lotion to rub on the scar, probably for the reasons mentioned above, plus to keep the scar covered with a bandaid until completely healed (2 week min). That and the sunscreen- said the sun will do the most damage.

Thanks for all the great advice. I bought the Vitamin E and have been putting that on in the morning at evening. Also using sunscreen when we are out.
Thanks again,
Ryane

Well, I am going to recommend Mederma. My daughter gashed her forehead quite badly a few years ago. She used Mederma and you can not see the scar even if you look. Sometimes if bright sunlight hits it at exactly the right angle you can see a faint outline. This was really nasty, requiring a plastic surgeon to piece back together and about twenty stitches. She definately thought it was worth the price.
