Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My little guy will be turning one in July. Please share any ideas for a first birthday party (Matilda - I have been looking at your parties - wish you were local!)

You are so sweet! Let's see. For a first birthday we have done character themed if the birthday kiddo had a personal favorite and we have also done the personal cake for baby to smash thing. My favorite one was probably my oldest's first birthday. He loved bananas!!! So I made a cake called a Banana Split Cake. The grownups loved it but he couldn't have cared less! He liked the bubbles we blew at him more than the cake. Oh well!

My second child celebrates her birthday in May and her first birthday was all about sunshine. We played in the sprinklers and ate sun dried fruits and had a big cake with a sun on it that said "You are my sunshine..." (that was her favorite song to go to sleep to).

What day in July? Have you thought about celebrating his birthday saint's feast day on that day? I think Elizabeth's family did animal face painting on her littlest one's birthday in honor of St. Francis. It's a great teaching opportunity for your older ones and the baby won't really care as long as there is celebrating going on. Pick something (song, toy, game, food) that is the little guy's favorite and build your day around that.

Thanks Matilda for the advice - I am going to do some serious thinking. I will make the little cake to dunk into - I have pictures of all the others doing the same! I just need to think of some activities for older siblings and cousins too.
