Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just read about this on cnn. There has been an outbreak of Salmonella in NINE states due to raw tomatoes.

I eat tomatoes all the time. Often, my lunch is a tomato sandwich.

NV wasn't one of the states, so far, but with summer salad season, raw veggies, especially tomatoes, are eaten in abundance.

I am a little concerned. I feel like I need to cook everything now. My stomach is so very sensitive anyway.

I just needed to vent and express my displeasure .

So far, NV doesn't seem to have "local produce" - it is all shipped in, as far as I can tell. I'm searching though.

(heehee I have always wanted to use the nuke symbol heehee)

Any chance you could grow your own - even in a few large pots?

We've belonged to a Community Supported Garden for years - it is a real treat for us to get those fresh tomatoes in August - honestly, after eating these tomatoes for years we just don't like the store bought ones. The rest of the year we use canned or sun dried tomatoes for soups and sauces.

Our favorite August meal - slices of homemade mozz, a crusty loaf of bread and balsamic vinegar!

We only shop farmers markets/csa/local produce stores

Here you go- farmers markets and csa's in NV

yum! looks like lots of good local stuff out your way.

for cleaning-soak/rub/wash(depending on the type) produce in a vinegar solution then rinse then slice off bloom/stem ends- its where most germys would hang out then cut and prepare as usual.

nevada grown

rise and shine

great basin basket

happy and safe eating- Maggie
