Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I wear custom orthotics for my crazy malformed feet. I'm SUPPOSED to wear them ALL THE TIME, but, alas......in the summer I just LOVE sandals way too much. I'm thinking that I won't be able to get away with this much longer, and am wondering......

Do any of you wear orthotics with a summer-type shoe or a sandal that CAN accomodate orthotics? What's out there? Brand names? Links?

Hi Suzanne,
I happened to get a catalog recently (no idea why it was sent to me) from a company that specializes in this sort of thing. It's called Footsmart and it has tons of orthotic-type things and lots of shoes for people with foot problems. I noticed right away that quite a few of the shoes were cute - not old-lady-with-foot-trouble-type shoes. I don't have foot trouble at all, but many of the shoes were touted as being so comfortable that I was tempted to try them!

Oh, Suzanne, my podiatrist told me that Crocs now make a version that orthotics fit inside of, and only a little more expensive than the regular ones.

These work well in sandals or Crocs for arch support, if that's what you're looking for. Footsmart is the only place I know of that carries them.

Also, Naot sandals come with removable footbeds so that you can add orthotics.

Would love to hear about any orthotic recommendations!

I've had a pair of the Naot sandles.. very comfy.. of course I was just using their foot bed.. but it would certainly seem like you could take their's out and put in a custom made one.. I wore the footbeds out and then couldn't find more for that sandle I finally gave up on them but the sole and upper were in great condition so they would last you well if you can fit your own custom foot bed in them.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I've been searching the Footsmart website and looking into the Naots and Crocs.

Brenda~ I don't have any orthotic recommendations, as mine are made for me at the the podiatrist. But, if you think you may need them, it's worth looking into, as many times, insurance will pay for them every few years or so.
