Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I had to really think about where to put this book since it could fall under several different forums. I finally decided that it should go here because it really has to do with character issues and parenting.

We recently got the book How to Behave and Why by Munro Leaf (of Ferdinand fame) and I really like it. It clearly explains some very important character traits and why we should possess them. For our family, it really hit the nail on the head because we have been dealing with most of these issues for some time now. He talks about what it means to behave and the components of that. It breaks apart the four parts of how to behave, honesty, fairness, strength and wisdom and really discusses each one.

I have been using it as part of our circle time and discussing on aspect a week. I try to get the kids to reflect back on our reading throughout the day as nessesary. It seems to be sinking in for my 10yo dss and my 5yo dd. The little ones not so much yet, but I really didn't expect much!

Anyway, I just wanted to share this with you because I have really found it to helpful in our quest for character training. There are also a few other books by the same author on related subjects.

Blessings,
Betsie

I should add that it does not really stress religious or biblical reasons to behave well, but we can all ad lib that part, I think!

Blessings,
