Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I've been collecting the "science nature guides" series of books. I've had the Trees book for years on my shelf. A few times recently we needed to look up something on trees and this was the book I actually found things in! I have now collected books from the series on birds, insects, wildflowers, butterflies, and reptiles and amphibians. Most were bought used on Amazon for under a dollar plus postage. I've been really happy with them! For instance I've been using the birds book to actually learn the names of some of the birds around here, with a measure of success, for the first time in my life! I have a Peterson's guide for birds, but whenever I tried to look things up it was just too overwhelming and confusing, and I would give up.

These books are organized by habitat, and that makes it quite easy to find things (eg. birds commonly found in city parks and suburbs, grasslands and prairies, woodlands, desert and arid regions, etc.) The drawings and information included are quite detailed for a children's book. The project ideas included (at least in the birds' book) are some of the most do-able, and worth doing, that I have seen, I think I will actually do some of them! Really love these books so I thought I'd share about them :). They are also available at many libraries.
