Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So my son is entering first grade, but i think he is not completed the third year math. He reports playing the bank game, and i have seen him use the addition & subraction strip boards.

How many golden beads should i buy? I note that Hainstock says you need 45 of the hundreds and thousands.... I realise i can use the wooden squares too....

wwyd?

i think it depends on how much "help" or "practice" the child needs.

Personally, I didn't even use the 1000 cubes. We only have 10 hundred squares, and that was sufficient for my oldest child. If you also get the "stamp game" then there will be additional reinforcement with that.

We have also used the 100 and 1000 chains, and the squaring chains.

I have...
units:100
tens:30 (20 are from the snake game set)
hundreds:9 beaded and 10 wooden
thousands:1 beaded and 10 wooden

The wooden ones are much cheaper, so that's why I got them as add-ons to my "intro to decimals" set.
I also have a 100 and a 1000 chain.
This has been more than enough for anything we wanted to do. I think you only need 45 of anything for one presentation (full layout), so it wasn't worth it to me to get that many.
