Have you ever looked out your window to see this running towards your kids?

We have had this happen, only the kid outside ran inside yelling, "there's a bear in the yard". He then grabbed the youngest child available and ran back outside so he could show the bear to his little brother.

Yikes! Haven't had that experience yet on this side of the Mississipi!
You are very handy with that camera; I just would have been panicked!

Yep. As all good bloggers would!
Actually, I was already in the house. We had been filling bird feeders and I came in to tidy up while the kids and my 3yo niece played outside. I could hear the kids yelling and the dogs barking - typical sounds - and didn't think anything of it until my son screamed "mmmmmooooooommmmmmm - bbbbbeeeeeaaaaarrrrr". I started screaming at the kids to get in the house - I'm sure they heard me in the next county.
The bear stopped -- turned and looked.at.me. - then changed direction. It ran through the stream and took off into the next field. By then I had the camera focused and got a few pictures.
My children now understand why they need to stay close to the house when playing outside alone. My mother now understands why I want to carry a gun when mowing the lawn.
My husband is mad that he wasn't home at the time...

There was that one time rough-camping in Canada when I was 12...but the bears were way more interested in food than they were in us.
But the photo begs the question: What happened next??
Kudos for getting the photo. I would have done the same thing.

There is a town about 20 miles North and another one 23 miles South. The highway is a litle over 2 miles to the East, as the crow flies. However, our land is bordered on two sides by over 3000 acres of wildlife management!

Wow, Paula. It sounds like pure bliss (despite a bear scare here and there)!

Glad to hear it was headed the other way!LOL!
There is nothing quite like the feeling of hearing one of your kids scream "mmmmmooooooommmmmmm - bbbbbeeeeeaaaaarrrrr"
I remember it well from our summer in Kodiak. Luckily our bear was much more interested in someone's stringer of salmon than in us.
Our first Kodiak bear siting
