I just had to share the joy I felt yesterday as my ds was an altar boy for the first time
I was so happy and felt so blessed to see him there next to Father serving. I am sure some of you other moms out there can remember your son's first Mass. It is such an awesome experience, I just had to share
Thanks for listening,
Christine

It is wonderful isn't it! My son just started serving right before Easter and I still love watching him serve.

No feeling quite like that, is there? Congrats and hugs to your son, too!

I understand the joy you feel!
My daughter began alter serving this year, and it has been something she does with such reverence from the depths of her soul.
Although our parish has a schedule for the alter servers, all of the servers are supposed to check if a server is needed at any mass they attend. She eagerly checks at every mass, hoping and praying someone didn't show up. Sometimes she's just an extra, because they love to have her, and she wants to so bad.
She is a deeply spiritual child anyway. Perhaps beyond her years in terms of the study and intense insterest of her faith and the Word of God. She spends a whole lot of her free time with her Bible, memorizing, studying and recording scripture in her various notebooks. She has spoken to me many times about the feelings she is filled with when serving on the alter. She said "I feel closer to Jesus than ever, and I just don't want the mass to end." She's said the feelings of happiness inside are so powerful, and hard to explain. I know the feeling she speaks of, and have told her so: It is the feeling of being filled with the Holy Spirit. An undescribable joy and peace. I think she is blessed to know and experience that feeling already, at the tender age of 10.
Sorry -- I hope I did not overtake your thread, Christine. It was not my intent. I'm just sharing....and letting you know I do know the joy you feel as a parent, seeing your child serve, knowing they are growing in faith and service, and strengthening their relationship with their Heavenly Father.
Congratulations....may your son's time of service bring him as much joy as it does you!!

Thanks, everyone, for your support and sharing in this joy! I am still so excited and looking forward to the next time he can assist Father. I knew you would all understand
God bless,
