This is sort of minor, but . . .
I'm having a hard time finding good skirts for the summer and I finally got one in the mail today that I'd ordered. It's a denim skirt that fits great and will look "summery" with the right shirt (I've been wearing my winter skirts and I think the dark colors and heavy fabrics are kind of depressing). My only issue is that the slit on the skirt is in the front. I long ago decided that I hated the front-slit trend because I think it looks, I don't know, sort of suggestive, I guess. I don't like side slits, either. The skirt is almost ankle-length and, even sitting down, the slit doesn't go above my knees. Any thoughts?

Not all slits are created equal! If it doesn't go up too high, then I would think it remains modest. But since I'm not seeing the skirt, maybe you could try it on for your husband and ask how it strikes him?
Peace,
Nancy

While it sounds perfectly modest to me, it sounds uncomfortable to you. I've worn things that looked fine in the mirror, but found myself tugging at them trying to "cover myself," when it wasn't an issue. HTH!

I agree with Nancy and Anne!! But truly, when in doubt, I always ask my husband.

Hmm. Worst case scenario, I'd consider sewing a small bit of fabric (maybe something coordinating, but contrasting, iykwim) underneath there. You could, possibly, even make it so you could switch out the panels, to better match whatever shirt you were wearing at the time...
Just a thought. I don't like the slits either. I generally just wear skirts with gores, rather than straight skirts. I'm in need of more leg room. Got to chase the littles, the dog, the chickens, work in the garden, hang the wash, etc, etc, etc.

The worst thing about slits is winter...I like to wear knee socks with my skirts (I hate tights and nylons) and slits make my socks look dorky.
I know they're helpful for things like walking, though!
