I just wanted to share what we did last night. Before you reach for your closest book of saints, St. Baldrick's is a made up name. St. Baldrick's Day can be any day and is an event where boys and men can shave their heads to raise funds and awareness for childhood cancer.
Here is the link to my new my secret blog.
I do have to brag about Carter for just a minute and tell you that he got up at all 4 of our Masses last week and made an announcement about the event. He did such a good job!!! I did feel sorry for all my friends at Mass as they were wiping their eyes when he was done. He was such an amazing testament to life after cancer, and in my mind, homeschooling also

Mary Chris,
As Nicholas went from "Mohawk" to "Nohawk," I truly appreciate your pictures. And I'm growing fond of rubbing his sweet bald head.
For those of you who are interested, here's a link to St. Baldrick's foundation and another to Locks of Love. Time for those summer haircuts! I tell you what, it's much easier to do tick checks now.

My Catie did the locks of love right after school started last year ... her hair came out so cute and it's such a good cause!
I'd never heard of St. Baldrick's and will need to look into that one as we do buzz the boys' hair (especially now that we're heading back into humid southern territory). But Elizabeth! Did you really have to remind me about "tick checks"

Yes... yes it is easier. However so far most of the ticks have been on me... and Dan's not in favor of me shaving my head. Thank goodness.

Elizabeth,
Thanks for linking, my time was running short.
Maryan, I would not let you shave either

Mary Chris, the pictures are awesome - what a wonderful thing you and your family did to organize this!
I prefer to donate to Pantene's Beautiful Lengths. They make wigs from the hair and donate them to women for free while Locks of Love sells the hair. Any wigs Locks of Love makes (very few) are sold to the children who need them. Wigs for Kids is another option where the child does not have to pay for the wig.
Plus (the clencher for me) Pantene only needs 8 inches, not 10.
Just a few other options as we contemplate summer haircuts!
I sooo need a haircut...

We did have people donate to the Pantene organization also and the Wigs for Kids. Honestly I did not know all the places that were donated to. I didn't help with that part.
It is good to know about Locks of Love selling the wigs. Next time I will push the Wigs for Kids.

Thanks for the info on Locks of Love. My oldest dd donated to them last Fall. My 8 yr old was getting ready to do the same. I think we will see if we can get 12 inches and send it to wigs for kids instead. I am definitely ready to chop my long hair, so I will do the Pantene one.
Maryan, the ticks love me too!

Mary Chris sent me an invite by email to her parish's St. Baldrick's event yesterday. When my girls heard about the event - and Ronan and Carter shaving their heads! - my 9yo dd decided on the spur of the moment to donate 8 inches of her hair. My 8yo has done it twice before, but this was her older sister's first time. (She's pictured on Mary Chris's blog with her cute new do!) It was fun to do it in a group setting like this!
