Maria was baptized on Sunday. As we stood at the entrance to the church sanctuary to present her for the sacrament, I was more aware than ever of the significance of what we were doing.
We were surrounded by her Godparents, and many relatives and friends. People who care about her, and who prayed for her. The Church Militant, renewing our own Baptismal vows, praying the Litany of the Saints, calling on the Church Triumphant for help. The beauty and relief of hearing the words, "I Baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit." as the water is poured over her little head. The fragrance of the holy chrism made in the sign of the cross on her forehead.
We still keep burying our faces in her hair to inhale the lovely scent.
Baptizing a baby is about as close to heaven as we will get during this life.

You have me weeping tears of joy...beautiful sentiments. I cry at baptisms. I've only experienced one baptism of my own child, but I couldn't stop crying at the richness and depth and beauty and significane. My son was now a child of God. It boggles the mind! It is one of the most beautiful liturgies we have and so meaningful and rich....and as a parent, it just is a taste of heaven!

Welcome Maria, a new little Catholic!
My priest used to always tease me when I had another baby by asking, "So when will you have that little pagan baptized?"
Naomi was baptized last Sunday on the 18th.
It is an awesome occasion, even though my 2 year old didn't really let me enjoy it as well as I would have liked! Shayna had to hold Naomi because I had to deal with Emma who wanted to run all over the alter. That's ok though because Shayna and Zach are her Godparents.

Oh dear! My nearly 22 month old slept through the whole thing, thank goodness.
That is so wonderful that your older children are her Godparents. What an honor for them!

Bridget,
Our signatures are very similar. We too have 7 children with 2 in heaven (both miscarriages at around 8 weeks). We have 3 boys and 4 girls.
It gets hard to find Godparents with a large family!
We have used all of our family including both sets of grandparents!
Yes, Shayna and Zach were very excited to be chosen. Shayna is 17 and Zachary is 14 today!

Aren't baptisms beautiful? My baby's baptism was on the 11th and it was beautiful. My husband's great uncle is a priest and he officiated at our private ceremony. We had many family and friends attend. We traveled to Massachusetts for the occasion as we have done for our others.

I was just wondering last night as I was staring at my beautiful sleeping 2 month old...
Is staring at a sleeping, peaceful (or smiling and happy) little baptized baby a glimpse of what the beautific vision must be like?
The bliss while staring at my baby was practically overwhelming!

Congratulations to all of the newly baptized babies!
I love Baptisms!
The wonderful priest that baptizes my sister's babies makes the announcement at the end, "Behold, the Christian!" It is awesome!
My twin brother and I are the godparents to our youngest brother. We were 12 at the time and I guess my parents thought we were the best candidates, which is a little sad.....not enough siblings or friends who were practicing their faith.....but very special to us!

Okay Erica,
It's early and I apoligize if you have already shared the great news with all of us and my frazzled brain missed it, but this is the first time I notice your signature saying # 6 due in April! Am I out to lunch or is this a new announcement?? Congrats!! I will add you to my "pregnancy prayers". Wow, there is a bunch of blessed ladies from our group right now!

Thank you, Laura! You're not out to lunch ! I did post awhile back, but it was mixed in with my complaining about being so sickly and our mourning the retirement of being the youth ministers at our parish after 12+ years.
I think I am just realizing in this thread that you just had a baby!!!! So, congratulations! I love that you chose your older son and daughter to be the godparents.
God bless!
