DH is having a test on the streets here in the town where he is working. We've lived here a MONTH, so of course he doesn't know most of them (the folks here usually grew up in the area, and then moved back, iykwim--this is a really rural area, overall). Please pray for him, that he will pass--or at least come CLOSE.
My almost 6 yr old was bit by a tick earlier this week. It was on her scalp. I checked out the site of the bite this evening, and she is showing the rash...the one that they say is a Lyme Disease sign. SIGH. Of course, since we've been here barely a month, I've not found a pediatrician yet, and in checking into it, the closest one is almost an hour away. I'm going to have to call the dr's office first thing tomorrow morning and see when they can get her in...DH wants me to call the hospital, since it is closer, but frankly, I don't see any reason to take her to a hospital (where there will undoubtedly be people WAAAY sick, and not to mention WAAAY germy--germs I don't want brought home, tyvm), when I could likely take her to the dr's office...
Maybe if they can't get her in before Friday, THEN I will go the hospital route. But I don't want to do that if I don't have to...
Rachel

Praying!
We've been down the Lyme's disease road, read as much as you can. A doctor with little Lyme's experience can make a mess of your daughter's health. You may want to inquire about how many cases he's dealt with and consider taking her to a dr. who has experience.
FWIW.

Rachel, get her to the doctor ASAP. Here's the CDC's page on Lyme's Disease for info. If you do it fast and get on the oral antibiotics you'll have a much better chance of sending it into remission. You're in Kansas or OK now, not NC, right? There was a great Infectious Diseases Doctor in Kansas City.
As your family gets additional ticks DO NOT scrape them off the skin with knives, credit cards, fingernails, you'll leave mouth parts in the skin. DO NOT burn them off with matches or cigarettes, you'll cause the tick to regurgitate it's stomach contents into your system. DO NOT paint them with nail polish or put chemicals on them trying to get them to back out on their own. DO NOT use tweezers to pull them out. All these methods cause regurgitation which increases your chances of contracting Lyme Disease.
The Pro-Tick Remedy or Ticked-Off scoop the tick off using a V-notch. I recommend hanging the removers on your car keys.
Praying for your daughter during this time.

I missed your prayer request yesterday but I'll be praying now. I know that Lyme disease is nothing to mess around with, but quick treatment can mean no problems. That's what happened with us. My dd had one (on her scalp like your dd) for over 24 hours (yuck!) and had the rash, but with a round of antibiotics she showed no further problems.
Would your old ped. be willing to call in a prescription?
