Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Any suggestions?

A friend recommended Scaredy Cat. Has anyone used this and liked it?

I am looking at Sing, Spell, Read and Write for my 5 year old.
I have also heard HeadSprout is a good online program for reading.
I have never heard of Scaredy Cat.

FWIW--This is just a friendly caution that phonics instruction can back fire with an auditory learner, until that child is reading pretty well. Auditory learners LOVE phonics and tend to apply it to everything, making it very difficult to read and spell words that are not spelled phonetically. Auditory learners tend to make a better start with methods that are more visual.

I want to apologize. I truly did not mean to shut down the discussion. My 11 yo auditory learner just started reading this month, even though he has done very well with phonics for years. I was just trying to save others the heartache that he and I went through. I can see now that I didn't actually add anything to the above question. Can you remove my posts?

Thanks,

Michelle,

Don't worry about it! I don't think you shut down the discussion. I have been meaning to come back and update, but it has been a busy week.

I had my ds8 work with my dd13 tutor this week, just to see if she thought he had any problems. My dd13 is dyslexic and I have been concerned that he is also.

We are going to give Reading Reflex a try with him, since I already have it. I had been using Explode the Code with him and we also tried Reading Made Easy and Ordinary Parents Guide, none of those worked well with him.

I used Alphabet Island with my eldest: http://www.eagleswingsed.com/products/complete.html

It was a terrific program - we can still remember the little songs and jingles. :)
