Since we have an Advent thread running, I figured y'all wouldn't throw too much at me for this topic 
I have to put together a basket for a fundraiser at my dh's school. The theme is Family Christmas Movie Night .
My question for y'all:
if you could pick the 10 best Christmas movies, what would they be........

A Christmas Carol (I have the George C Scott and Mr. MaGoo ones, but I like the Patrick Stewart and Muppet ones too)
Miracle on 34th St.(both old & new versions)
White Christmas
Emmett Otter's Jugband Christmas
Nestor the Long Eared Donkey
The kids like:
Charlie Brown's Christmas
Frosty the Snowman
Wiggly, Wiggly Christmas
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
Also, we watched Elf last year and loved it. I don't remember if it was really a Christmas movie though.

We watch White Christmas at least once a week and sing the songs all the time. My three yr old and five yr old love being the Haynes sisters!
Of course, It's a Wonderful Life. (I watched that while laboring with my third child, boy was I mad when the movie was over and he wasn't born yet!)
We really enjoy the Santa Clause with Tim Allen and Jingle All the Way with Arnold. I think both have a few edgy lines but they are funny and the whole family can enjoy them.
We also own the old Miracle on 34th Street and everyone enjoys it.
We don't really do any animated Christmas movies, except The Toy that Saved Christmas (Veggie Tales), that is a classic!

Mary,
I don't know if you can get a new copy of this and it's only on VHS but The First Christmas with Angela Lansbury is great. It's animated (not the claymation movie of the same name). It's a beautiful story, has a kind, loving nun in a habit and a blind shepherd boy who receives a miracle. I should buy it too, since we always checked it out from our old library system and our new one doesn't have it.

We watch it as a family each year and love it! It's really long, so young children may get distracted or bored, but there's nothing really objectionable.

Yes!!! I love this movie! I love when Bing and Danny "fill-in" for the Haynes sisters and lip-sync this song. I just crack up, everytime  !)

"Miracle on 34th Street" (I always have to watch this Thanksgiving weekend )
"It's a Wonderful Life"
"The Bishop's Wife" (I really love this movie-I know Jenn said some in her family don't like it. It must be the old Anglican in me  )
"A Christmas Carol" (I really like the one with Alistair Sims. We do have the "Muppet" one and "Mickey's Christmas Carol" too.)
"A Charlie Brown Christmas"
"The Grinch Who Stole Christmas"
"A Christmas Story" (My dh can't stand this movie, but I get a kick out of it everytime I see it. It is a bit ...coarser than the others.)
"The Bell's of St. Mary's" (This is one of dh's favorites. )
"Disney's Very Merry Christmas Songs" (It is the 1988 version. It actually includes verses about God! My boys all like this, and love?loved it when they are/were little. Dh and I watched it just the other night with dss 4 and 2 and enjoyed it as much as they did! )
These are our favorites.
Some others we enjoy watching:
"Jingle all the Way"
"Home Alone 1 and 2"
(These above 3 are also, ... coarser, but fun!)
"Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer"
"The Star that Saved Christmas" (Veggie Tales)
"Christmas in Connecticut" (I enjoy this old movie, although there isn't much in it with a Christmas moral.)
"The Little Drummer Boy"
And,not exactly Christmas, but "Frosty the Snowman"

Ok, I remember getting a black and white Christmas movie last year and I think it was It's a wonderful life and we quit watching it after a scene with a young woman in a towel (out in the yard) and some man goo gooing over her. Is this the movie or am I thinking of something else?

Erin, you can read the plot here. The only thing that might need some explaining is that George Bailey contemplates taking his own life. Otherwise, I did not need to explain much to my children. It is a great movie, IMHO.

We love The Christmas Story. It's our favorite and a great one to watch when you have older kids and younger mixed. It's hard to find movies we all like.
We like Christmas with the Kranks (hysterical and loved the book it was made from *Skipping Christmas*.
We love Elf and the Santa Clause movies too (! and II)
Sarah and I absolutely love Eloise at Christmastime. We loved The Polar Express too, and bought the sound track because of Josh Groban's Believe and the song, Hot Chocolate.
We are planning to watch some oldies this year too!
