I have no idea where to put this topic, so I'll start here.
I'm looking for a good place to buy baskets (suitable for books primarily, but also toys) online. I have a few baskets around the house that came with flowers, gifts, from garage sales, but I don't have time to do garage sales and there are no thrift stores near by. (The nearest Target is over an hour away as well, and Wal-Mart's baskets tend to fall apart in my experience.)
Any suggestions?

Do you have a JoAnn Fabrics nearby? I bought a couple of baskets there this week, thin rope-wrapped, heavy wire, and they were 40% off. Maybe $4 each? I wish I could find a picture. I'm using them to set at the bottom of the stairs to the kids' rooms, to hold the inevitable "I'll take this up later" stash.
Our nearest Target is 45 minutes away. I feel your pain.

At Christmas I bought a set of baskets for our books. I searched and searched for not Made in China baskets and finally found white ash splitwood baskets from Greenfield MA. I was super excited and snatched up several only to get them home and turn them over to find the little gold Made in China sticker on the bottom. There was no mention of it on the many, many tags attached to the baskets, it was all about the special trees, specially harvested, blah, blah, blah...
However, if you can get over the fact that their "old-world craftsmen" are in China the baskets are terrific!

Well, longaberger baskets are awesome and made in the usa, but they cost an arm and a leg. They won't fall apart on you, though.
Ikea also sells baskets, and they might have them available for shipping on their website, too.
Michael's also has 40% off on baskets pretty often.

I've found that Hobby Lobby has a great selection and usually has a sale going on. Not sure how durable they are.

HomeGoods and/or TJ Maxx always have all sorts of lovely baskets and fancy-looking storage bins.
Peace,

Hobby Lobby baskets go 50% off all the time and my hoe is FILLED to the brim with them. I find the baskets with fabric liners hold up better to book storage because the corners of the heavy books don't poke at the weave of the baskets.
I also love the canvas baskets I have that are velcroed onto wire frames. They can be removed and washed and so are nice for shoe storage, laundry bins, and craft supplies.
Photo boxes are also often half price at Hobby Lobby and are my choice for kids' nature treasure boxes, keepsake organizing (I have one for each child), and craft supplies like wool roving, embroidery thread, etc...I also like them for holding paper napkins in the kitchen cabinet.
Have fun!

We have a MCC store here that sells stuff made overseas at Fair Trade prices. They have an awesome selection of baskets, and I am happy with my one holding some of my ever growing cache of yarn.
For books I use the green Superstore grocery totes. Yes, they are plastic and ugly but boy can they store heaps of books and are nicely slanted in from the sides. I would love to make nice covers for them to spruce them up a little as I find the baskets always die a quick death with four kids and hundreds of library books!
