Where can I buy good quality soft cotton sheets and pillow cases from? I need to change my bedding - and I am not sure where to shop. We are waiting on painting our master bedroom until my allergies improve - so I figure I will change the bedding and then get the room painted to match
I am all inspired by Ruth's Post

Do you have a Marshall's near your home? I just purchased a 100% cotton set of queen size sheets (320 count and very soft) for our bed for a really good price.

We got a nice set (400 ct.) at Linens and Things. They often have clearance sets and then with the 20% off coupons you can get an even better deal. I love how soft it is.

Thanks everyone - any particular brand names to look for. I may make it to Linens and Things today as it is right next to the library There is a Marshalls too right there - but that shop scares me - I always get totally overwhelmed when I go in there The one when we were on vacation in SC was great - but this one is such a mess and crowded.

It's not so much the brand as it is the thread count. Higher thread count - softer the sheets. Linens and Things here has small samples of many of the sheets hanging with the displays so you can feel them. I just checked the label on mine - it's a line specifically made for Linen's and Things, but didn't have the brand name.

last spring i bought some new sheets - I think it was at Linens and Things (we've moved so I am not positive it was that store). Anyway, for the first time I bought organic cotton sheets - wow what a difference! Right out of the package they are softer than sheets I've had for 15 years! Being organic, the cotton is not bleached and so I am careful not to bleach them. We've been using them almost a year now and they are still great.

My all time favorite sheets are the cotton jersey knit sheets from Lands' End. They are wonderfully soft, and wear very well. They also fit our mattress well...don't you hate it when the corners of the fitted sheets are SO hard to get on (and have stay on)? Several years ago I bought some very nice and pretty cotton sheets of another brand, and the first night we slept on them, dh asked, "What happened to our other sheets?! These aren't as soft, can we have our other sheets back?" LOL!

My favorite sheets are made from bamboo. They are very soft, almost like jersey sheets. I bought them from Amazon a couple years ago and I can't find a brand name on them.
Higher thread count is usually softer -- but avoid any polyster blends - they tend to be scratchy (IMO). Our sheets are either 100% cotton or bamboo.

Me too. I think they're 400 count and they were incredibly reasonable. They only had queen and king, I think. I know they didn't have twin. But they really are nice sheets.

I picked up some 1000 thread count sheets on eBay, straight from India. They are the best sheets I have ever used, and they were very reasonable.

I love a high thread count (300 or more) cotton sateen. Soooo insanely soft! The only problem is that they wrinkle easily - not a crisp, starched look on the pillowcases, kwim?. The only thing softer is a thick, soft flannel set in the winter!

We love our Simply Shabby Chic sheet sets (from Target.) We've had ours for two and a half years, now. It is the only set we have - wash and put back on the bed weekly and they've just started to show wear in the last few months. Before these, the other sheets we tried only lasted a year (or less). My MIL rotates 2 sets on her kids beds (snow white) that are going on 3 years and look like new!

Stephanie, I'm curious, which ones do you own? I love the whole Shabby Chic line as well but the sheets I purchased for my two dds' twin beds (pale pink, pillow has a ruffle on the edge)are not tremendously soft, and the fitted sheets are too loose and ill-fitting . The fitted sheet when pulled as tight as I can still looks...well...shabby ! I love the look of the rest of this line...(my girls have shabby chic comforters which we're very pleased with - very nice quality!) but I was discouraged with the sheets. Maybe it has something to do with our mattresses? Hmmmmmm....

I picked up these sheets at WalMart last week and absolutely love, love them! And they are wrinkle free! They are so soft, too. And plenty big for the fitted to fit my deep mattress and the flat to tuck in on the sides! I think I paid $50 for a king set, but I see on the web site they're only $40.

MaryMary - PMed you (sorry it took so long to answer your question).
I've been reading Home Comforts by Cheryl Mendelson and she goes into a lot of detail about choosing sheets: Thread Count (which is only one factor to consider), Weave and Weight, Fiber, Hand (silky soft or crisp?) Absorbency, Warmth, and Launderability.

LOL--I get my favorite sheets at yard and estate sales. Sometimes, I'll luck out and find some at a thrift store...
Those really really soft cotton ones your grandma used to put on the bed every summer? That would be deliciously cool when you slid into them at night, worn out and exhausted from playing in the yard/pool? Yeah. Those.
AHHHHhhhhhHHHHhhhhh. I just got some this weekend (my new town had their annual city-wide weekend garage/yard sale this last weekend...). SIGHHHHHH...SOOOO SOOOFFFFTTTTTT!!!!!!
I don't know what makes them so soft, but oh, I don't like to sleep on anything else anymore...

Nice, Molly! That's a pretty reasonable price for good quality sheets. I have usually paid over $50 for a good set for our queen sized bed . But, then again, we're in Canada...where everything seems to cost more. I'll have a look at the Wal Mart here to see if they carry these.
