We just got the kit at the local Hardware Shop and my husband put it up. It came with two hooks, line and a winch and I bought my pins and s-hook separately.

Oh my, the prices! I think we paid about $35 for ours; a 50 foot, 4 line version which we made ourselves. Do you know a welder? I could give you specifics, and it would be heaps cheaper.

I have seen them at Walmart; cotton lines and also retractable ones.

Ruth,
Do you have a specific one in mind? Indoor or out?
The T Post looks easy enough to make using (PVC) pipe, hooks, and line.
This link has a retractable 1-line for $20 or a retractable 5-line (34 ft) for $60 from ACE.

We have one of those four sided "umbrella" styled ones, and it holds ALOT of clothes. Although you might need two, Ruth, I'd think that that would be alot easier than trying to get the T posts...I'll probably end up with a second one in a few years. This one came with the house, and DH re-corded it with some coated line he picked up at Home Depot (I think--it might have been from Tractor Supply or some other place). MUCH better.

Ruth-
I was planning to check at Southern States. There is probably one near you.
Peace,
Nancy
