Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you ladies go through these quickly? I have 1 dc in particular who "needs" them several times a day. I am spending way too much money on them. Does anyone buy them in bulk at a place like Sam's or Costco? This dc gets hysterical if I tell her no. (she's 3) and I keep thinking she will grow out of it like my others did but this has been going on for 1 1/2 years and she's not slowing down.

Nate went through a phase like that. I bought boxes at the dollar store

He did outgrow it finally!

Here's a suggestion that sometimes works:

Buy plain band-aids with no characters etc. on them, and remind the child that they are for cuts or scrapes only.

Then buy a sheet of inexpensive stickers (you can get loads of them for next to nothing) and put them in a special place like a pretty box or basket; tell her these are the "cheer-up" stickers for "owies" that are NOT cuts or scrapes (i.e., not bleeding). This way, if she comes running to you telling you she's bumped her arm or finger or whatever, you can carefully check it and then say, "Oh, good! It's not bleeding at all! Would you like to put a cheer-up sticker on it?"

The only downside is that she may want a sticker in addition to a band-aid when she actually does have a little cut, but stickers are way, way cheaper than band-aids!

I didn't think of the dollar store! Duh! And thanks for the sticker idea. Although I don't buy the pretty, character ones, she just wants band aids.

Is this inherent in children or what???

I tell them there has to be BLOOD.....or no need for a band aid because it is a waste of our resources.....not being good stewards and all that......like a 3yo could understand that ...but they might.

I LOVE the idea of a sicker instead, Red....great idea!

Lisa........sometimes my kids would lose it if they did not get the bandaid......but I just held my ground.....THERE MUST BE BLOOD.......it is pretty concrete and they eventually got it.

Commiserating with you....

What happens when you get one so stubborn he will MAKE himself bleed just to get the bandaid?

(Not that I have one like this or anything .... oh, no.)

My oldest always "needed" band-aids, and I simply couldn't afford them. I found a cheap plastic toy doctor's bag at a discount store that came with a band-aid "bracelet". Problem solved!
