Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

South central area, not to far out from Trenton. Anyone here from there, live there now, or know the area? Are there local catholic hs groups? Any information is welcome.

Thanks!

I'm from NJ, but haven't lived there in...gosh...is it really 20 years? I'm old.....

I am from Port Monmouth, which is a little bitty town in Middletown Township. I miss NJ terribly - especially the ocean. I am envious of you .

Here's a link to CHAPLETwhich should help.

I am northwest too (way, way north NJ) and I've had the impression that Catholic homeschoolers in southern NJ are a bit more organized.

I know quite a few Catholic homeschoolers up here but we seem to be a bit spread out.

But homeschooling in NJ is great - for a state that at one time even tried to regulate how eggs are cooked in restaurants - we've been able to keep homeschooling unregulated!

I will pray your moves go smoothly!

I don't normally post here but wanted to give you some information about Central NJ.

We spent the last almost 2 years in Burlington Township, which is in Burlington Co, just south of Trenton on 295, which is an easily travelled route to Trenton, Princeton and etc.

While there we homeschooled. We were a little too far north for CHAPLET and also I couldn't find any information on it without paying dues. The dues were not high tho. AFAIK its a lovely fairly conservative group. the moms do meet to pray the rosary. Im sure there are kid events too.

We chose to join a homeschool co-op called Crossroads Homeschool Ministry. They are evangelical christians but were fairly welcoming to catholics. NJ is very catholic but a lot of non practicing catholics or non traditional catholics... cafeteria catholics, I guess. http://www.homeschool-life.com/nj/crossroads/?public=1

There are some fabulous swim lessons offered year round at Burlington County College in Pemberton, not far from base. http://www.bcc.edu/

The Burlington County Library system was very nice. Fort Dix and Maguire are both in Burlington Co iirc.

The church we attended was in Mt Holly and the pastor there is pretty orthodox. The tabernacle is in a small chapel right off the altar. The church itself is fairly traditional. There is a large population of Philipino immigrants who introduced a nice tradition of nightly mass before Christmas- its called Sinbang Gabi.

Burlington City also has a church. Used to have 2, but there were several parishes slated to be closed in the diocese and I think All Saints was on the list. I believer one was offering Latin Mass occassionally.

There is a failry surprising number of homeschoolers in the area. http://www.enochnj.org/support.php3?opcode=grp&value=132 has some info on HIS co-op which is south NJ but very accepting of catholics from what i heard.

Burlington Co Library will have more info about the Burlington Co based enrichment activity group for homeschoolers- not a co-op but meet ups iirc. No statement of faith.
http://www.enochnj.org/support.php3?opcode=cty&value=Burling ton

that is a full list of the groups available.

Housing in the area is terribly expensive. We paid 1875/ month for a 3 bedroom townhome which backed up to the turnpike. That is pretty normal. It was a nice house. Taxes are high.

grocery stores options are Wegmans, Aldi (in Delran area) Shop Rite, and Acme, which is part of Albertsons. Wegmans is the nicest and maybe the most expensive, depending on what you buy but they are competitive. Princeton has a mall and of course a downtown area with traffic galore. Burlington Mall has a few shops but is pretty empty. Target is everywhere walmart is in Lumberton and cinnaminson. Plainfield/ Princeton has those too.

Burlington TWP has a swimming lake for 50/ family for the summer. There are other lakes too. the pools are very expensive- it would have been 700/ summer for our family of 5.

HTH somewhat. Enjoy NJ. Visit the Herr's Pretzel Factory over in PA and try some fesh hot potato chips!   Definitely check out the historic sites in Philly and get a cheese steak (we liked Tony Lukes) CHOP is a wonderful chidlren's hospital if you ever need it. We didnt hit NYC but you could if you were braver than I!
