Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

After I hopefully educate my kids excellently in the colonial American period, I hope to move back in time to the Greek/Roman time period with the kids as a group. I have Famous Men of Rome that I hope to use with them and also D'ulaires Myths etc. (I hope to purchase the study guide from Memoria Press for this. Is it worth it? ) Also, I didn't know if I wanted to go all out and purchase the Famous Men of Greece book too, or just start the Famous...Men of Rome book and see how it goes?

Does anyone have any ideas on hands on activites to study this? I recently saw someone elses thread concerning Greek studies, and got some cool ideas off of that discussion, but what about the Roman studies? I researched a few things online today and there is Roman food, dressing up like Romans, making a mosaic, studying the Roman arch and trying to make a model one. Studying concrete making. (I have older boys who may like this stuff, plus dad is into concrete.) Anyway, there were a few other ideas I bookmarked that I cannot remember. Anyone else do a succesful study of either of these topics that you would mind sharing?? I really hope to include all of the various aged kids in this process to make it fun and to have history be more of a family affair. Thanks for any help you can offer!

We recently studied Egypt and found Marian Broida's hands- on activity books. I just had a look on amazon and found that she has hands-on activity books on Romeand the American Revoluiton (saw your other thread) and many other areas. I found with the Egypt book she gave background information and related activities and they weren't too young for my older ones.

I'm in the midst of planning and Early Church unit so we will be doing some Roman activities ourselves. I'll let you know if you like when I've finished planning.
