Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi,

I purchased the geometric cabinet which is big and was wondering if I could just use that for the metal insets work. Is there a specific reason why she did the tracing using the metal insets or was it just to seperate the work? I don't want to buy the metal insets, too because it is big and I like the cabinet because it is like having an instant set of puzzles for my toddler. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

I don't see why you couldn't make the geometric cabinet do double duty.
The insets are nice and flat and so they are easier to trace, but I think the geometric shapes could serve the same purpose.

ditto Theresa.

for "insets" I made a set out of foamboard with beads glued to them! They set into a wooden tray. Cost me a total of maybe $3. They have served 2 children well. :)

The only potential draw-backs I can see to using your geometric cabinet:

1 - they will probably get written on (it's a beginning writing exercise, after all)
2 - the child might lose focus on the "stereognostic" aspect of the cabinet - the simple act of tracing the pieces with the fingers. As long as you demonstrate this use occasionally, it should be fine, I think!

Holly,
We have the metal insets and love them! They have been such a huge hit here. I certainly think you could use the geometric cabinet insets for tracing purposes. I'm a big fan of extending the value/work of materials.

Thank you all.

The geometry cabinet was beautiful and I am out of space and would rather not get the insets too. My first use of the geometry cabinet was not with my 3 year old, I haven't had that time yet, but with my 8 1/2 year who is completely auditory and therefore could not see the quadrilaterals in her Miquon Blue book.

I actually fell into Montessori because of some vision deficiencies that we are seeing with the oldest and some fine motor skill deficiencies that I am seeing with my 7 year old twin. I figured that spending $100 on the cabinet might help save me the several hundred dollars in therapy that both of them may end up needing for their minor issues.

Thanks.
