I prayed for an easy baby. I prayed for a short labor (perhaps that was one of my mistakes). I forgot to pray for an easy delivery!
Turns out, I didn't have to push. I dilated to 8 cm (went through all the work and pain it took to get there), my doctor broke my water and then said, "Uh-oh. I feel the cord." I was totally ignorant. "OK, what does that mean?" I asked. The cord was prolapsed, which meant that it had slipped above the baby's head. Every time I had a contraction, the baby was pressing on it, thus cutting off her supply of blood and oxygen. It was an emergency situation and I had to have a Cesarean.
I was really scared. Had never been through *any* emergency procedure before, least of all when it was a life-or-death situation a baby. So many people were rushing around in the room. It was surreal. I'm slowly coming back to life. I walk around like an old lady when I first rise from sitting. But I'm doing a whole lot better than I was a few days ago.
Cecilia Rose is with us now as of the feast of St. Matthew (September 21) and, God bless her, is truly a wonderful baby girl. She might even be a little *too* easy. The pediatrician is concerned because she lost a pound since delivery. She loves me so much she'll sleep all day if I hold her! She's eating...but I do feel like I'm going to engorge if she doesn't eat more at each feeding and eat more often. This happened with Jacob and we found that his meconium was stuck in his bowels. A quick enema proved him to be a completely different, much happier, hungrier baby.
I wish I could send pictures on this forum of our new, sweet bundle.
I'm praying for you, Bridget! Love to all,

Oh Tina!
Congratulations! I'm sorry it was an Emergency C-section, but I'm so happy she's healthy and happy and beautiful! Just hold her...and take time to recuperate. My c-section took a long time to heal.

Oh wow, Tina. I feel your pain . First, congratulations on that new baby! Hopefully, she's just feeling the after effects of big-time birth meds and she'll wake up and start eating heartily soon. Please, get some serious help for the next few weeks. Really take it easy and give yourself time to heal. You've been through quite an ordeal. Keep talking and let us know how you are. We're still praying!
FWIW, I prayed for a short labor and delivery last time too. Ended up with quite the c-section.

Congratulations Tina! I hope you do have help so you can rest. If not, then I hope that your Alex and Anna step up to the plate for you!
I have a hard time "taking it easy" when I have my sweet babes, but I know it is the right thing to do!
Enjoy your little Cecilia Rose and I am sure she will be feeding fine soon. It is not at all uncommon for them to lose, especially when breasfeeding until our milk comes in full force!

OOps sorry for the misunderstanding....Your milk has come in! Ouch, yes indeed. I just suffered a blocked duct last weekend with the whole enchilada of fever and chills...not fun. Hot (as hot as you can stand) washcloth compresses and expressing a bit is what always works for me....that and nurse on the affected side first. Come on little Cecilia, nurse well for mom!

Congratulations!
I, too, had to have an emergency C (double footling breech) and it was quite an experience. I'm glad your darling girl is so wonderful!

Congratulations Tina. What a beautiful name you blessed her with.
Get lots of rest and warm compresses. Cabbage leaves can help as well if you start to feel too full and uncomfortable.
Enjoy your babymoon, I miss that so much!!

I love her name, too! Congratulations and many blessings in the days to come! I, too, had an emergency C-section with our second. The whole thing from the beginning of labor to me waking up is actually a very funny story, although the pain wasn't funny at the time. Try to rest! And get lots of help! What an exciting time!

Congratulations, Tina and family! I love the name Cecilia! Have to keep that in mind for future reference . I've had bunches of c-sections (well, 5), so I will just say to get plenty of water and rest, don't stay in one position too long, and let others help you as much as possible. All these new babies and new pregnancies can really get a girl thinking... .
Blessings to you all!

Oh, wow, Molly--5!! I have had 4 and don't want another one. Tina--take it easy. The pain will be there for a while. I know it's hard when you have other children. In my culture, the rule of thumb is that you don't do anything but rest and feed the baby for 3 weeks after birth. This is to perserve your body for old age. Basically, the belief is that if you rest your body when it has been through trauma (and what isn't trauma to your body, but birth?) then at a later date you won't have health problems such as arthritis.

Congratulations, Tina! How is Cecilia Rose doing? Has she gained some weight back? If you have a digital picture of her, I can post it if you pm me.
