Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

My 5 yo daughter swallowed a penny on the drive home from vacation on Sunday. We know it she didn't aspirate it, so we're waiting for it to come out. She looks fine, acts fine and is going to the bathroom regularly. How long would you wait for the penny to appear before going for x-rays? Thanks so much!

My dd swallowed a quarter (she was 8 at the time! big mouth ). We went in and they said wait 5 days for it to come out. I was to check all of her stools (way too ) So after 5 days it didn't come out. We went back in and they wanted an xray to check where it was....and it was still in the colon area. Of course the next day it came out.

HOWEVER, pennies are a bit of a different story because they are copper which is not good for you. My niece swallowed a penny and she was referred to the foreign body retrieval dept (no kidding!) at the hospital where they did a bit more following than they did for our quarter.

I would just call your pediatrician, and see how long they want you to wait.

Not much advice just an interesting story about the workings of Providence...

When I was two years old I swallowed a penny and my mother took me to the emergency room - I was x-rayed so they could see where the penny was.

Another physician was walking by and happened to see my x-ray on the light board. "Whose xray is this? Get this child to my office right away!"

It turns out I was born with bilateral hip dysplasia that had never been diagnosed despite my mother's concerns about my unusual way of walking.

I do know that after a certain year the copper content in pennies was reduced - my dh does a science experiment with pennies and we are always on the look out for the older ones so it will work properly - when he backs fom fishing I'll ask him the year.

My 2 year old did this a few months ago she was still in diapers so it was an easy check to some degree. I actually almost missed it because it um blends in well Annie

Oh my goodness, this cracked me up!! That's a lot of sorted-through poop !

I did finally call this morning. Sarah is very, let's say "productive", so I was starting to worry that it hadn't turned up yet. The x-rays showed nothing! They looked at her lungs too, and nothing. I can't believe we missed the penny! I'm just glad to be off of sorting duty, or should I say sorting "doody" .
