Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Would you like to find out who your 4Real Patron saint is?

I thought this was such a fun thread from last year that I'm asking again!

Check on the left of the screen where your name and avatar appear. At the bottom is the date you joined. (I guess you could also check the memberlist to find out.)

Now look at calendar of saints (such as: Patron Saints Index Calendar of Saints and tell us who your patron is!

Mine is St. Francis Xavier, patron of the missions.

Mine include St. Basil the Great, Abel, or...

"Many Martyrs who Suffered in Rome" -- these nameless folks wouldn't surrender the holy books under persecution by Diocletion. Cool!

Hmm, some of the "not so popular ones" for me?

Great future baby name ideas, though:

Baudacarius, Beornwald, Dioscorus, Festus, Glycerius, Honoratus, Jutta, Severinus, and my favorite, Themistoclese.

Hmmm, Themistoclese McDonald. Its got a nice ring to it . . .

Slightly interesting, Peter Canisius-- my name would have been Peter if I were a boy, and my brother went to Canisius college.

Mine have family connections, too - my ancestors are buried in St. Fidelis cemetery in Wisconsin's Manitowoc County, and we were stationed in Gaeta, Italy, where Pope Pius IX proclaimed the Immaculate Conception at the Golden Chapel. Feast days...Feb. 7.

Ha! I just checked my actual birthday, and Alexander is one of my patron Saints-- my first son was born the day before my birthday!

Okay, kept checking-- St. Catherine of Sienna on Catherine's bday, St. Edward on James Edward's Bday, and I realized sometime after Katie was born that her birthday was near St. Aureilian-- her middle name is Aurelia. I didn't realize any of this at the time! Neat!

Well happy joining day to me! I went to go play and saw that I joined 3 years ago today.

There was no saint that I recognized, so I'll go with Saint Anselem of Canterbury since my parents used to live on Canterberry Drive.

Thanks. This was fun.

Ok, I have to say that I'm NOT bored with mine!

I’ve got a patron who was a former pirate, having great familiarities with wild animals.

Another slaying a Welsh giantess to protect a group of people, (there's an image of this in a church somewhere) fighting duels with a Saracen in front of the Pope, then being taken to the land of faerie to dine with the King of Fairies, possibly receiving that invitation by a talking peacock no less. Sprinkling holy water on this King who turns into a demonic bird and flies away. (I think that there is some legend mixed with fact in this one)

Then there is another who is said to have sailed to America even before St Brendan the Navigator.

Finally there is one who had a neurotic materal aunt and is the patron of dysfunctional families (St Eugene de Mazenod).....yes, this is MY day.

Well, that's interesting...among others, there's this:

Africanus
One of a group of 50 Christians who were imprisoned in a pen of snakes and scorpions, and then martyred, all during the persecutions of Decius.
Died
beheaded in 250 at Carthage

Sts. Terence and Pompeius were also in this number and are remembered on this day.

Isn't it funny how different names leap out at you at different times? I don't remember Eulalia from last year at all but how cool is she? 13 year old martyr, patroness of mariners and safe sailing.

Thanks to Brian Jacques this year for making her name leap out at me!

I missed this last go-round -- FUN!

A few of mine (Oct 18) are

2 Ugandan martyrs (blesseds):

Jildo Irwa and Daudi Okelo.

Also another martyr, only 9 years old!...
Saint Justus of Beauvais

The nine-year-old Justus was denounced to pagan authorities as a Christian magician. Questioned about his faith at Beauvais, the boy confessed that he was a Christian; he was immediately executed. Legend says that the body then picked up the severed head and stood upright before the terrified soldiers; later retellings depict the headless boy preaching and converting the pagans.

Born
278 at Auxerre, France
Died
beheaded in 285
