Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I recently saw a trailer for the new movie, Nim's Island. I see there is a novel that the movie's base on. I'd never heard of it. Anybody read it? Do you recommend it? I have an 8 year old who loves adventure especially fantasy. I spend a lot of time exploring more books for him to read and/or listen to on unabridged audio.

Yes, we enjoyed both the book and the movie. Probably good for children aged 8 and up.

We thought he movie was good, but the book was better. The 2 ten-yr. old boys with us gave the movie a 9 1/2. The two 16 yr. old girls gave it a 6 1/2. Lot's of stuff changed to provide good comparison discussions.
The movie had some mistakes? that left you wondering "how did that happen". Like when the dad didn't know who the bird was and then later was calling him by name. And what did Nim do with that starfish anyway??? (These are not spoilers)

We just finished the book. I read it aloud to my dd-6 and ds-8. We all just loved it-even my lurking teenagers! We haven't seen the movie, but am very interested in everyone's opinions.

We haven't read the book, I should put it on our list. I actually didn't know their was a book until we were on our way home from the movie. My kiddos did not enjoy the movie all that much, I'm not really sure why. Oh they just told me they thought it was boring .
I thought it was fine, I really liked the scenery.

I started reading this to my son Luke last week. So far, it's a quick fun read. Since we listened to The Swiss Family Robinson recently, we can compare the island living. For Nim, she does have email something the Swiss Family Robinson didn't. I do like reading about resourceful and interesting children. I'm hoping it fires up the imagination. We'll see the movie after we're done reading it.

We enjoyed the movie and I particularly enjoyed the writer's character (my brain is forgetful, can't remember the actress)

Just thought I'd mention that there is a sequel called Nim at Sea. Dd 7 and I are really enjoying it (although we are only at chapter 12 of 22.)

My dd read Nim's Island and loved it. I'll have to tell her about Nim at Sea.
