Forget the February funk - I am finding it hard to keep going in April - would just like to sleep in and spend time outside? Anyone else having the Spring Struggle?

I don't know if you would call it slowing down, but there is definite shift happening here. More time outdoors, less time at the table. It is getting harder and harder to focus on "academics" so have pitched most of it and are doing more active, hands-on stuff. We definitely have been inching towards a summer mindset.

I think I am going to fill the book baskets, require morning math time four days a week and then spend the rest of our time outside and field tripping. Summer is hot here that we end up spending a good bit of time inside. I'm going to plan some fun lapbooking units and focus on hand crafts during late June, July and August.

Not really. I'm anxious to finish up and not sure we'll finish everything, but we're pretty close.
Each Friday I look through our books and see how much is left than I divide it into the weeks we have left. I'd really like to be finished by end of May.
The children will continue reading for pleasure through the summer. I want a set hour or two in the heat of afternoon for the children to come indoors and read. I have some who read every night, this is for the one who doesn't but I have to assign it for everyone because of the one. And the ones who read at night usually read during the day anyway.
We will also be doing our Teaching Textbook (at least 3 lesson weekly) so as to catch-up because we didn't start with these at the beginning of the school year.
So...math in morning, reading in afternoon. That'll take a total of an hour and half per day and keep our days structured.
Nature and fun the rest of the time.

SLOWING down, Marilyn!??
At a STANDSTILL!!!!
I just have to hope and remember that eventually I come back to myself!!! It's hard in these "slow" times, isn't it, to not feel like we'll never get the energy again!!? But, there is only so long we can stay this way before the tide changes again and life naturally propels us up and out, no? Seasons change, hormones change, children grow...!

Thank you Nina and everyone else. I am so type A it really upsets me when I am slow and dragging. I get panicked when my siblings make a point of telling me how much work their kids are doing in gifted and talented programs in public school, their achievements in private school etc - but I have to remember that I am "educating" not schooling (or as my kids say - they are "real learning") and that our ultimate goal is to get our kids to heaven.
But this week - we are reading all about the popes and Benedict XVI - I feel all motivated about that.

This week we are going to sing a lot. Some arts and crafts... And I am reading to the children from old copies of Ranger Rick Magazine. I am excited about that too, and hopefully we'll watch some of the Pope's visit.
