Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I came on tonight looking for encouragement from others with experience with teens. We're truly in the trenches here and I keep doubting our parenting and wondering what we've done to make her this way. I hope this quote is true because then maybe I can have a little hope that the upswing will come soon.

Someone once told me that when it comes to parenting teens, every other year is tough. (13, 15, 17, etc.) Although my son has been pretty cooperative most of the time, I have indeed found this to be true.

We're bracing for impact with dd (almost 12). Surely we can't luck out twice in a row...

Girls can be especially tough. It is the hormonal and how to best deal with it. I feel for the men in our house!

Oh dear.....I think boys are the tougher species. They want to be in charge at such a young age.

I think they both have their own quirks related to gender. Girls can be so hormonal and boys can be so uncommunicative .

Breathe

this too shall pass
this too shall pass
this too shall pass

and think of everything that that implies -- both positive and negative

While it's really difficult raising teens, I am just *loving* every minute of it -- even the icky moments. Talk about growing in holiness! It's very hard not to when you're almost forced to get down on your knees at every turn. Not to mention they are just so much fun to talk to -- when they were little it was their imaginations, their unique ways of seeing the world... now that they're more introspective, I love hearing their thoughts on faith, on politics, on suffering.... what a blessing they can be and are. These days are just so beautiful, and bittersweet.
