Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Our family recently watched "August Rush" and just loved it! It gave my boys new excitement with their piano lessons...all of a sudden my 6 year old is writing music. I just love these kinds of films and am wondering if anyone can think of similar films that could get our kids excited and motivated. Thanks!

We love

The Rookie
that football (Notre Dame) movie with the guy who played Sam Gamgee in LOTR -- sorry I can't remember the title! -- oh yay, found it~!! -- Rudy
and Miracle
and Glory Road

but they're all sports movies (I'm not a sports person but dh and the kids are)

DH and I liked August Rush too -- watched it on the plane on the way home from a trip. Esp. the part where he just started playing the guitar; loved that scene! The plot though gave us several "huh?" moments and I wasn't very comfortable with the teen pregnancy /abandoned orphan scenario -- made me rather glad the kids were asleep.

I wish they'd make some of the classic composers' stories into kid-friendly movies -- almost all of them met opposition at one time or another, usually from fathers who thought they'd be better off in another profession... or their music/work wasn't accepted right away... and yet they forged on.
