While Viv is looking for a metal bread box, I am looking for an old-fashion butter churn. I want to set it in my sitting room in the corner near my pantry.
Does anyone know of a good quality one online at an excellent price? Or would I do better scouting flea markets?
TIA!

You'd for sure pay less at a flea market or thrift store Cay!
I was going to try to link you to Lehman's, but their site won't load for me right now. Anyway, if you can get on to Lehman's site you'll find some nice wooden butter churns.

Thank you, Jennifer.
I guess they're pricey, huh?

just checked my catalog - the cheapest, $55.
Someone else might know of another, cheaper source though.

Ugh!
Thank you for checking, Jennifer.
Gas prices have put a stop on any frivilous spending on my end. Guess I'll just have to keep hoping I run across one that nobody wants. Or hint around to my family mightily. My b-day is next week ...but I already asked for a new computer chair because this one is falling apart. Guess I need that more than I need a butter churn.

Do you have an active Freecycle group in your area? That might be another option...

Cay,
I did an interesting search on how to make a wooden butter churn on Google. I thought you had some woodworkers around your home. After seeing some other churns for $150-250, $55 is quite a bargain. You need to be careful that a churn you buy from others isn't merely decorative but food safe.
From Mother Earth News
This is for decorative plans.
Some good tips here
All sorts of interesting antique churns
Now if you search how to make butter churns that aren't wood, there's a lot more detail.

Thanks, Maddie. I didn't even think of ebay and, don't cha' know, we just set up an ebay account yesterday.
I still can't afford the ones on ebay but at least it gave me a general idea of what they're selling for. Good thing to know. Actually, I could afford some of the churns but not the postage combined. Ouch! I did find one I liked that I could bid on but the postage doubled even my bid.

I do! I do! I didn't even think of that. I think the circular pattern threw me off. Not sure when I'd get my wish though. My men are in the process of erecting a new shop. Perhaps, if the shop is complete by summer, I could hint around for a homemade churn for Christmas. That would be seven-months advance notice. And my men do love to peddle with wood in the shop. They'll be looking for something to do after the shop is finished.
Thank you for all the links, Jenn. I'm having fun going through them.
What I'm looking for vs. what I'm open to...
I'm open to a decorative one just to sit in the corner. My ultimate wish would be an original wooden antique that the girls and I could use because, as hsers, that's what we do. But, I know it wouldn't happen on a regular basis. I'd still take a nice decorative one and just make milk by shaking a glass jar.
But a 4real antique wooden one would be glorious.

You can also make butter by putting the cream in a blender on low speed! FWIW anyway!
