Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Anyone out there know of a good Living Book for 4th to 8th grade on the subject of Maryland's establishment? We've been using the Brown Paper School book on the American Colonies, very nice, but it doesn't cover Maryland, the Catholic colony, at all (other religious groups seeking freedom are discussed: Puritans, Pilgrims, Quakers, Jews, even Moravians!, and secular settlements as well, but no Maryland ) I was thinking to correct that omission with a really good book of historical fiction. Any ideas????

Thanks, Kelly in FL

There's a OOP book called Charles Carroll and tne American Revolution IIRC as well as Leonard Calvert and the Maryland Adventure.

(Obviously the new & used pbs are the best bet)

Is this what you had in mind?

In Christ,
Deborah

Thanks, Deborah. Good recs. I also found "Patriot Priest" (also about Charles Carroll) by Eva K. Betz, recommended elsewhere on the list.

Kelly,
'Outlaws of Ravenhurst' by Sister M Imelda Wallace is one of our favourites. A ten out of ten. Although the book is mainly focused on Scotland and the persecution of Catholics there. The beginning of the book is set in Maryland and the end when the Scottish Catholics seek refuge in Maryland.

Not too sure if the book is still in print. My book is published by Catholic Authors Press.

Erin,
Thanks for that information. I'd been *thinking* the "Outlaws of Ravenhurst" had something to do with Catholic Maryland, but couldn't quite remember (and don't have my copy handy). Thanks for jogging my memory!
