Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would love to hear from those of you who make your own skin salves - I am going to try some natural products as I do not want all these prescription and petroleum based things. Has anyone found one that is gentle for skin irritation and inflammation? Where do you get your supplies from?

Thank you!

I wholeheartedly recommend Nature's Gift. Their site is full of information, the oils and other products I've received from them have been of the HIGHEST quality, they always include samples with my orders, and they are extremely helpful if you need to contact them. OH, and they ship extremely fast!

I've ordered from them for at least 5 years and have never been disappointed!

I make a simple salve with extra virgin olive oil and beeswax. I soak/simmer herbs in the oil for a set time before I make the salve if I want it to have certain properties. Otherwise, the oil and beeswax makes a great all purpose salve for dry skin, burns, lipbalm, etc.

If you want specific directions just ask

Wow - great information. Question - can I leave out the essential oils?

Another question - is the kit the best way to go - for a complete newbie like me?

You can totally leave out the essential oils. I would skip the kit if I were you- it is so much cheaper to do it on your own, and very easy

Sure, though those oils are healing. Just don't skip the Vitamin E oil because that is a preservative. I don't even think the kit's available any more. And I've got all those herbs and plenty of them right here, Marilyn. I'm happy to give you some if you are itching to get started (pardon the very poor pun).

Coconut oil is a great "solid" base. I use it for chapped lips. Sometimes I'll add eucalyptus or peppermint oil for stuffy noses (wipe on chest or under nose).

The book "An Encyclopedia of Natural Healing for Children and Infants" by Mary Bove, ND has all kinds of great tips! No need for a kit!

Katherine - what else do you use for your lip balm? Do you melt the coconut oil and add an essential oil or any other herb then strain and package? If so, which ones do you use?

I haven't added any herbals (yet!). I put a bit of the solid coconut oil in a small screw cap container, screw the lid back on and put that in a mug of hot water. After it is melted, I mix in the essential oil, let it harden and that's it! Way too easy!!
