Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

water watercycle oil paintings nature

We just did a unit about water and the water cycle last week, but I didn't get this book from ILL until now. What a treasure! It fit in perfectly with the teaching of the water cycle, and even the kids where impressed with the lovely art work. My 8yos said "It looks like you can touch the moon's reflection on that lake!"

The last page of the book ends:
"I am one thing.
I am many things.
I am water.
This is my dance through the world."

I love Thomas Lockers books. The artwork is an art study, the text is lovely, and the ideas are a great complement to a living science education for the young ones.

Great find, Joann!

I am looking to potentially invest in some and ask for the others as gifts. The illustrations are just SO beautiful, but our local library has NONE.

So before I go getting several of them... Has anyone ever had any issues with any of Thomas Locker's books - faith-wise or other?

Some books he writes and illustrates, some he only illustrates so you can be dealing with other authors as well.

I haven't read them all but have read most. I don't recall anything that was striking to me as problematic. There are specific ones that cover legends of the Native Americans so have their spirituality in them. I'm specifically remembering Between Earth & Sky. Illustrated by Locker but written by Joseph Bruchac (who is a profilic Native American author of children's books).

My favorites for nature study would be these three a
Water Dance
Mountain Dance
Cloud Dance

Sky Tree is another good one for art or nature study. He only illustrated this one, written by someone else.

He also has several books about different naturalists (Henry David Thoreau, Rachel Carson, John Muir). I think they are informative biographies, well done and fairly balanced in presentation. There is some PC environmental angle so if that was a concern those might not be the best fit. The illustrations are of course still very beautiful.

I recently read both of these retellings of famous stories and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Washington Irving's Rip Van Winkle
The Boy Who Held Back the Sea
