I know we have had numerous discussions on slings, but I wanted to get real specific here. I could actually revive a thread of mine from almost 2 yrs ago, as my problem is still the same.
I love my MobyD Wrap. Without question it is the most comfortable and practical baby carrier I have ever tried. My problem is that I want something that is quicker on and off, and easier to pop baby into. My left shoulder is just worn out and I am in constant pain. Try as I may, I can't remember to hold him on my right side.
This would mainly be for in the house when I don't want to keep the Moby on all day. I want something I can keep on that won't be in the way when baby isn't in it.
A sweet friend (Hi Roma! ) brought over her Hotsling for me to try. I love the design, but Seth doesn't seem to like it (although he is cranky this afternoon). It seems a little snug even though it is the larger size of the sizes I measure for.
So, my question, anyone tried the Hotsling and the Peanut Shell or New Native Carrier? I am thinking the Peanut Shell is stretchier, but I am not sure that this is what I would want.
Comparisons, thoughts?

Hi There,
I used the peanut shell with my last baby and I loved it! It was very comfortable and when my baby was not in it, it just felt like a sash...not really in the way at all. (reminiscent of girl scout or beauty pageant days. )
I gave mine away to my friend's daughter and just ordered another one for our next baby due in July. If you order it from the peanut shell website, www.goo-ga.com, they are having a sale right now. ( Mine was $72 and I got it for $35)
I actually think the New Native carrier is a little stretchier than the peanut shell, as the pictures seem to have the baby sitting, or slinging, lower. I liked the snugness of the peanut shell. I didn't feel like the baby was going to fall out at all, yet it wasn't so tight that it was uncomfortable on my nursing chest. :)
That's my two cents! Both sound great but I really like the patterns and comfort of the peanut shell.

Thanks DeAnn! Do you know where the Peanut Shell is manufactured? The Hotsling is made in the US, which is always a big selling point for me.
Anyone tried both?

Looks like the Peanut Shell is there too!
Does anyone have an opinion on which type works best for a big toddler (almost 2, 30 lbs.)? My ringsling is literally falling apart and while my guy likes to be on his own he still likes the occassional sling ride. I often use a wrap at home with him on my back but I need the easy in/out for when we're out & about.

Well, I ordered a Peanut Shell and it's on the way, so I'll let you all know what I think once I try it out. The only slings I've ever used are Over the Shoulder Baby Holder. I've been thru a half dozen of them since my firstborn.

Molly,
I e-mailed customer service at Peanut Shell and she said they are currently being made in China but are almost ready to move the manufacturing back to the US. Apparently they became popular so quickly and were not quite prepared on the manufacturing end for the rapid growth.
Too bad the current ones are made in China, but at least the company is aware that this is not ideal and are moving it back to the US ASAP.
Hope that helps a little!
DeAnn

I will gently add that (I believe, at least as of 2 years ago) Hotslings were made in the US, but, (and I say this with charity) the brainchild of these pouches is a very vocal social/political liberal. There are alot of WAH Christian moms that make lovely pouches similiar to a Hotslings, or better yet, a pouch is SUPER simple to make yourself! :)

Molly, Are you holding your baby in cradle hold? Is that why one shoulder is hurting more than another?
I have the hotsling. We don't like it. I just am not a sling person. I had to get a larger size because of my chest size, but it's still a little tight for my son. I didn't like that I couldn't pull it on and off without major manueverings.
Also, I remember you mentioning your back hurts often. The sling carries all the weight forward, making my upper middle back very sore and painful. I couldn't wear it for long periods.
I was thinking of trying the MobyD because of your rave reviews, so now you have me rethinking it again.

Jenn, don't misunderstand me. I absolutely LOVE my MobyD! I couldn't make it through Mass or the grocery store or any other outing without it. It is so comfortable and so secure! The only problem is that it takes a couple of minutes to get the baby in and out. I also don't want to wear it around the house and get it dirty. Maybe if I had two...
I don't hold Seth in a cradle hold. I tend to have him up on my shoulder with my forearm supporting his bottom. He is so strong and big already that he likes looking over my shoulder. My shoulder starts hurting as soon as I pick him up.
I have been trying out the Hotsling my friend lent me. I just keep it on all the time. So now when I pick him up, I just slip him into it. I don't feel it is as secure or supportive as the MobyD, but it is easy to get him in very quickly and it takes the pressure off of my shoulder. I don't cradle him in it, so there isn't alot of manuevering to get him in properly. Really, I am still supporting him with one hand but the sling bears most of the weight.
The one I am borrowing doesn't have any stretch or padding. From the sizing guidelines, it should fit me well, but I think it is too small. It doesn't "give" at all which I think I would prefer. Also, one of Seth's legs tends to turn blue if I am not very careful about where the sling hits his leg. I think the padding and stretch in the newer Hotslings or Peanut Shell would help this?
Lisa- Thanks for the input about the makers of Hotslings. I will weigh that in my decision-making process. I wonder if that is why Mom4Life doesn't carry Hotslings?

I am still musing over here.
The Hotsling I am borrowing doesn't have any padding and seems to cut off my baby's circulation in one of his legs when he is sitting up facing me with his legs dangling. I am wondering if padding would help this, as the Peanut Shell has.
I found another brand, Lucky Baby, which is less expensive and American-made. They give money to a children's cancer foundation. But that sling has no padding either.
Lisa? Anyone?

Molly, I've never used a pouch with padding, so I can't tell ya, sorry. BUT, make sure the pouch you are using tucks under his kneecaps at least, and his legs are nice and bent, keeping his knees above his bum. This will help with the circulation issues no matter what sling you are using. HTH
