Mom (AL-mom)told me to post this prayer request for my five year old brother John. He got sick (a cold or something) yesterday, and was worse today. This evening, he was having trouble breathing. Mom and Dad just took him to the ER. Please pray for him!

Thanks everyone for prayers. We had a very frightening day but John is home now recovering from croup with a 1 1/2 day lasting steroid to keep his airways open until the virus runs its course. Basically, he started out the day with mild symptoms, a bit hoarse and fever - figured it was a flu bug and he would rest and then want to play like normal and peter out. Nothing indicating what happened next - he suddenly started really struggling with breathing - his rib cage sinking in, his heart pulse pounding as you touch the rib cage and obvious struggle to get air. We rushed him to ER, he was treated due to a swollen trachea (of course there were necessary tests, blood work and IV) and he was admitted for overnight observation due to the severity of his initial presentation. Thankfully he is much better now, though still dealing with the croup. Since we got into our hospital room around 4 AM and just now got home, I'm off to take a shower and go to bed.
Thanks to all of you for your prayers. Little guy was such a trooper and so cooperative.

Janet, I have a 5year old boy who suffers croup under these conditions as well, we had our last attack before Christmas and it is always frightening. I hope John has a good night tonight, I pray for it.
