How do you manage sheets?
I have a decreasing laundry tip on sheets.
I'm still trying to decide where to store the surplus.
Any tips on managing/storing sheets?

Sarah,
Washing the same day and putting them right back is a pretty good idea--but what when a kid throws up all over the sheets?
We only have two beds right now and they are different sizes but I had thought that we would have all gender neutral sheets and own one more set than beds. Then I always have an extra set and I can change one bed each day, even.
Your decluttering/home organizing posts are so encouraging!

I have to share this sheet storage tip I found from a show called "neat" (not capitalized). Probably everyone does this except me, but I thought it genius.
When you have a sheet set, fold into the top sheet the folded bottom sheet and folded pillowcases. It makes a little package, so you can just grab the small pile and not have to rummage for matching pieces.

I'd never heard of that before!! What a neat idea!!! I'm headed to everyone's closets after this to pop all the sheets in pillowcases!
We have 2 sets of sheets for each bed in the house for just such emergencies as the vomit-fest! I keep sheets in each child's closet. I do like Sarah suggests in her post to wash and make the bed with the same sheets the same day as much as possible though - I hate folding sheets, and I hate it even more when someone else (very well-meaning) in the family folds sheets.

Another tip that I have heard is to fold the sheets fewer times (so that they have a larger area and less height when folded - I hope that makes sense!) and store them tucked between the mattess and box spring of the bed they belong to. I have done this, and it works great, as long as you don't have too many sets stored in there!

I would not be so brave as to own only one set of sheets per bed, for the same reasons others have mentioned. Maybe I just have low standards or something, but since nobody goes to bed absolutely dirty, I change the sheets every other week, alternating whose get changed so that I don't have *all the bedding on earth* to launder and get back out on the same day. Sometimes on sheet laundry day I don't get them done before bedtime, so I prefer to have a second set, which I put on as soon as I strip off the old sheets. So, right from the get-go, the bed is ready to be slept in again, even if something comes up during the day to interfere with completing the sheet job. I love the idea of making each set of sheets into a neat little bundle. I bet the linen closet looks very tidy with those on the shelves.
Just my 2 cents.

We have two sets of sheets for each bed in the house (one each queen, full, twin): one on the bed, one in the wash/in the linen closet. I usually change sheets once a week, sometimes every other week, and they're washed and folded in a day or two. Now if we could get the washed and folded laundry put away we'd be in really good shape.

We fold all the sets and then store the sheets inside a pillowcase from that set, very similar to the aforementioned tip and our linen cabinet looks very neat and I never have to go hunting for a missing "part" of a sheet set!

Well, the idea was to put the bottom sheet and pillowcases in the last fold of the top sheet, kind of a one piece of bread foldover sandwich, but the pillowcase idea is great, too.
And it is so neat and tidy.

Oh, I have many sets of sheets per bed. . .WAY too many! I just meant to not pull them out unless there is a vomiting type crisis. I could never own one either! We're not that clean and organized! 
I'll edit that on my blog since I didn't make that clear.

One time my little son was walking through the hall as I was carrying out our sheets to be washed.
"Who wet YOUR bed, Mummy?" he asked, very sympathetically.
That probably gives you an idea of how often sheets get changed around here...
In my defence, I have to say that all the beds in our house are incredibly difficult to change and require my husband's strength to wrestle things back on. So I always have to think, "Is this going to be a good night to get the sheets back on? and so often it isn't.

I read a tip once: store the second set of sheets for each bed between the mattress and box spring of that bed. (Of course, don't put them in the pillow case first lol)

We're a two-set-per-bed family, too. When my youngest had a bad flu in January we had to borrow sheets from my mother! :)

I have alot of sheets. We've got two sizes right now, and soon will have three (we're going to get full over full bunks for the girls room, the boys will end up with the twin, and DH and I are upgrading to a queen size). And we have lots of sheets (I like the old "grandma" sheets--the soft soft washed 20 trillion times like grandma used to have, so I buy them at whatever thrift store/yard sale I find them at).
Anyway, I've heard the storing the sheets inside of one another. And I try to go with white. Its neutral and can be bleached if needed (with three dds and myself, well, I figured it was just prudent to opt for that--none of them are of an age yet, but still)...

I get so tired putting sheets back on! I have noticed that the better quality the sheets the easier they are to get on. We have so beds pushed right together and its hard to get at them. When I'm pregnant. . .impossible!

I'm such a boring mama, too. I like plain white or pastel colored sheets. Being able to bleach is nice. I do two sets per bed.

I have two sets of sheets for each bunk. But our bunks are not rectangular like a normal bed, the master cabin is trapezoid shaped and dd's is a long and skinny 5-sided bunk. My sheet management tip is to buy guy's suspenders to hold the sheets on the mattress. They work much better than those little white sheet corner holders!
A second tip is to skip the white sheets, Rachel, and go for red/burgandy or navy or other dark colors. With the dark colors you'll never notice that "shadow" that always seemed to be left behind on the lighter sheets even after bleaching, hydrogen peroxiding, oxycleaning...
A white coverlet folded down with the dark sheet set looks so crisp and modern and clean, imo!
